I also miss all the small town burger drive ins. Dixie Dog, Tasty Treat, Malt shop. Etc. Ron White always mentions he is from Fritch, Tx. His family owned the little mom & pop burger joint here in Fritch. It is still there but is no longer Whites Drive in, was a barbecue place for awhile but is now vacant. As far as I know the building is still owned by his family. My InLaws owned the Dixie Dog in Spur Tx for years, sure miss those days.

Has anyone mentioned Mr. Burger yet? Great burgers, seriously greasy from what I remember. Had quite a few in towns in west Texas / Permian basin where I grew up.

Growing up in a Chicago suburb in the 60's, my only exposure to Mexican food back then was the Tom-Tom Tamales at the A&W Drive-in.

Catfish King still kicking in Jacksonville... best damn catfish I ever ate.. There's one in Paris that I just recently tried. It is dang good JR I loved it as a kid. The first restaurant I ran was one of basically 2 places in that town that served catfish. About 6 months into it the Catfish King shut down. We went from selling about 150 pounds a week to about 500 pounds a week over night. The first couple weeks till we got a handle on it I probably made 4 trips to the warehouse to get more fish.

The Blue Front. Family owned and run, served up German cuisine at lunch in the tunnels below downtown Dallas for many years.

I remember the catfish king being where El Torro is now. Ate there many a time. Used to love the hush puppies when they were about the size and shape of a 410 shotgun shell.

Houston’s The Grape Southern Kitchen Star Canyon
There really is just too many.
I recognize and remember a ton of these names. My Mom got to be friends with the owners of The Grape and The San Francisco Rose back in the '70s. There were times I showed up with a date at one of them and didn't have to wait in line. Never asked for it. Good food, good times.
