DirecTV has went up over $10 on my bill this month. Haven’t had Fox in 3 years. They just did away with the golf channel. I’m finished with them. I know nothing about streaming TV. What’s the best service for streaming? I like pretty much all major sports. I also like comedies such as Seinfeld and The Office. Big On Patrol Live fan. Do you get any local news station streaming? My daughter says YouTube TV is pretty good but I have no clue.

I had directv satellite in Dallas. Moved here and went to streaming. Got a Roku box, ended up subscribing to directv streaming because it was the best option and cheaper than the satellite. ESPN+ is also a decent sports app that you can subscribe to off of the Roku, but it doesn’t have some of the big sports like NFL. I use it to watch virtually all of the stars games.

YouTube TV offers a 10-day free trial followed by a 15% discount for the next six months for new customers and it has your beloved locals.

I use YouTube TV and it’s fine. I also supplement it with Netflix and Paramount+

We use Fire stick, Netflix, YouTube Premium, My Outdoor TV and Victory Plus for Rangers games. More TV than we need. Costs about $55 a month.

I don’t miss direct tv.

Decide what you want to watch first. If you like mainstream media for some weird reason, get YouTube tv. If not and just want to watch tv shows and movies, get Hulu and Netflix as a start. More content than you could consume between those two. Regular ol free YouTube has essentially an infinite amount of content too and mostly skippable ads. Plenty of news content, podcasts, etc… it’s just those “shows” are formatted differently due to the nature of the algorithm.

Seriously spend some time exploring YouTube. Just go looking for golf content first and see what you think.

Netflix, prime, youtube TV, you tube,
Wife mixes in hulu and binges for a month then cancels. We do this with HBO after some series are completed.

Streaming is more work finding something to watch, but much of that work is due to all the options. And you will likely be done with any scheduled programming you normally watched.
Short quick videos are the future. Programming and entertainment is going to embrace this

I'm not sure what all we have. We dumped uverse and went to youtube tv, we also did a free trial with Hulu and it was fine. We went with youtube because my wife wanted nfl ticket. We have paramount, we have Netflix, roku, max, Disney, apple, Amazon...... we don't seem to have a problem watching what we want. roflmao

I did a trial of ONTV or what ever the outdoor network is. It is mainly hunting commercials. I hadn't watched it in months, but never canceled my trial.

A good over the air antenna and regular Youtube is all I need.
With a nice $70 over the air antenna appropriately installed and directed here in the metroplex, I can capture 120 TV channels in full band width uncompressed 4K audio and video quality.
I enjoy buying Blu Ray DVDs at Half Price Books.
The audio and video quality of quality over the air reception and Blu Ray is far superior to the highly digitally compressed garbage these streaming services pump out.

Yes, I miss out on Netflix TV HBOMax TV shows, but my wife and friends typically subscribe to all that, so I can enjoy those shows when I'm socializing with them.

I hate to point out the obvious but if your wife is subscribing to stuff you are subscribing to stuff.

Man, I so want to cut off Uverse…but it’s so easy to use for this old fart. I use the pause, rewind, fast forward, record every day.

We have Dish at the main house, and antenna TV at the guest house and the barn workshop. We’ll keep Dish, but I have to say that there just aren’t that many channels worth watching. I can get plenty of channels from an antenna, with equally watchable channels. Most evenings we’ll watch something on Prime Video, which now has commercials on many shows.

With modern TVs and a USB thumb drive, I can pause and rewind over the air broadcasts as well......I know I could record with it also, just haven't spent the time to figure out that utility yet.

Of the 120 channels what is worthwhile to watch? I ask this because I have Spectrum but we mostly watch Netflix, Max, or Paramount+ which all 3 are free to us because of Spectrum and T-Mobile. I watch the local news on Spectrum and a few shows here and there but really not much. I like some shows on ID One, History, National Geographic, and unfortunately the wife like some on HGTV. Bottom line is if we are viewing TV in the evening it is always on one of the before mentioned apps or some on Youtube. For the 120 channels Spectrum boasts of the high number of channels but most of it is not anything I would bother to watch. Current Spectrum bill for cable + internet is $220 total.

Commando once I get home. As I only watch the TV for sports, I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. If the game I want to watch isn't broadcast over the air, I'll just watch the highlights on YouTube.
This protocol has also been very effective at eliminating any exposure to modern day infotainment emotional news propaganda.

That's where I land also. I watch about 2 shows other than live sports and news. On the other hand my wife feels like she needs every single show available whether or not she ever watches. I think that makes me guilty by association

I use an app called On TV Tonight.

You customize it to your zip code and broadcast reception area and it then provides you with what you can receive over the air in your area.

If you live within 50 miles of the TV towers; this is what I recommend.

The over the air channels I watch the most are the ones that broadcast the Mavericks, Rangers, Cowboys, and Stars regular season games.
The major networks broadcast over the air, so I watched the NFL playoffs, the Hockey playoffs and the Nations Cup, the Olympics, the World Series, and the Super Bowl over the air.

That's all I need......plus regular Youtube highlights of games not broadcast over the air in my DFW area........and I may have some username and password access to the MLB and NBA season passes.

I Use an old fashioned Antenna with a Roku TV. That provides all of the locals, and sub-locals (channel 5, 5.1, 5.2, etc) and 160 free channels including the PGA Network and local news stations for most of the major cities in the US. I subscribe to Netflix and Paramount plus. My monthly cost is less than 25 bucks. I get all of the sports that I care about using this set up.

That’s one for sure.

I like the cast and characters feature where you can see who’s in the movie, when and where they were born, when they passed.

Lots of actors in the early movies were born before the Civil War…
