Species diversity if one of the great things about Texas fishing. For example, I have documented Big Fish Awards for 15 species of fish. That equates to completing the Saltwater Elite Angler qualification 3 times. Here is a list of the species I caught: Jack Crevalle Spanish Mackerel Little Tunny Ladyfish Red Snapper King Mackerel Dolphin Red Drum Sand Seatrout Greater Amberjack Gafftopsail Catfish Sheepshead Black Drum Cobia Atlantic Spadefish The Elite Angler Program is a lot of fun. Personally I'm highly skeptical of the 15" croaker being a thing that's possible. They get that big. But you may have to fish a long time to get one.

Personally I'm highly skeptical of the 15" croaker being a thing that's possible. I can assure you they get MUCH bigger. I didn't realize just how big until I got an offshore boat and did an overnighter hooked to a rig about 35 miles offshore. We caught a box full of 5-8 pounders. First one we caught I thought it was a redfish when we got it boatside. Not sure we didn't catch some state records that night...never checked what that is but they sure were tasty!

The State record is over 5 pounds and 29” long.
