I could still lose another 4-5 #'s but I would be a bean pole at 195. It does not take into account frame size, muscle mass, fat percentage, or anything else. With that chart, I'll bet 97% of people are obese today.

BTW....Blood work came in great.

I’m the same height as you, in decent shape and weigh 205, to get to 230 I’d have to stack on an insane amount of muscle or get fat, it would be a full time job. 230 is big unless you were a lot bigger when younger.

I get it. I weighed 187 out of college at this weight and wore a 30" waist. Could I lose a few pounds? Yes, but 205 would put me with my frame at skinny. Way too skinny.

BTW. Your BMI is 26.3 according to the NIH meaning you are overweight. You have to get to 194 to be considered healthy (according to the National Institute for Health).

My BMI is 26.5 and I could stand to lose 10lbs or so.

BMI with no other factors being considered is worthless.

Take that number and custom tailor it to an individual and it can be used as a means of tracking progress over time, but not much more. It should never be used as a single reference point.

Geez, hearing all this and after getting a job in the trucking industry, my BMI must be in the 4 digit zone by now. frown

Did hear a really good podcast yesterday about fasting. Some of those loons fast for 40+ days on nothing but water. WTH?!

Yeah, Steve, your height to weight ratio is probably a little skewed isn’t it?

DEXA scans are the gold standard for measuring body composition thus fat vs muscle content. Muscle is denser thus weight vs volume would be higher.

Seems I remember the Cowboys back in the day using water displacement (pool or tub) as a way to measure body fat.

ahhhh ... found it:

Hydrostatic Weighing (Underwater Weighing):
This method measures body density by comparing a person's weight in water to their weight out of water, which is then used to calculate body fat percentage.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Dexa scans will also tell you were the fat is located . Fat that is around your organs is the worst for overall health .
BMI ratings can be misleading ---- but Dr's use it as the lowest cost to the consumer .
Most of the guys on this forum eat bad food ---sugar , carbs , chemicals etc..... Not to mention soda's and beer .
Inflammation is what will most likely kill you . Combine inflammation with being fat and it's lethal

When I get in the tub and all the water hits the floor, I stop eating g for a few days. I don’t need a doctor to tell me when I’m fat

I have several clients that have a high BMI, but have a very low body fat percentage. It's a bunch of bull and wasn't even thought of/developed by a physician. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-02/the-problem-with-the-body-mass-index-bmi/100728416

I'm 6'0 and 234 lbs. I'm not solid muscle, but I wear a 34-inch waist shorts and 36-inch waist in pants because my freaking calves don't fit in the tapered fit jeans. So, yeah, I'm not as skinny as some, but I don't think I'm obese.

I tell people my abs are under there. I just like to keep them well insulated for protection. Actually, you can make the argument that I care about my 6-pack even more than you do because I keep it nice and safe.
