I have a 2024 Yamaha SHO. At about 19 hours and over Christmas I began having occasional problems starting the engine. At 20 hours I took it to the dealer for the oil change and service and told them of my problems. After the service they said their analysis of that problem indicated there was no problem. Well tonight and also on at least a few other occasions, the engine did not want to start. And I forgot my phone this evening so there is no way I could have alerted anyone for help. So I have a tournament on Toledo Bend in about a month and I just cannot get to the point where my engine doesn't start and I am 15 miles from the launch in four foot seas. Anybody had a similar problem? I am going to take my boat in next week and asked them to consider that I really am having problems and to do whatever they do to fix this problem.

Beginning to wonder is this is the Engine Control Unit or Module. That is an expensive repair but the engine is under warranty.

What is it doing? Cranking and not starting or not cranking at all.

My brother bought a new Phoenix with a 250 SHO a couple of years ago and was having intermittent cranking issue, it turned out to be a loose ground wire.

Cranks, starts to fire and then crank and crank and crank. It has always eventually started. But at a cost to the battery. It ain't right for an engine with twenty hours on it.

But most of the time it starts just fine. At 19 hours I noticed a change in the idle performance of the engine. It became rougher.

Check throttle linkage adjustment. The sho does not have a cold idle circuit, if out of adjustment where the throttle plate is partially open it will be hard to start on cold mornings.

I have a 2020 year model 250 SHO. I had problems with it making oil (blowback) the first couple of years I had it. Took it to a couple local dealers and spent hundreds of $$’s on gimmicks (mainly oil changes that they said I wasn’t using the right oil) that they “thought” would fix it. Got upset and called Yamaha directly. Come to find out, just because they are a dealer doesn’t mean they have been trained on Yamaha equipment. Only a “Master Certified Yamaha Mechanic” has been to training schools on their equipment. I’d suggest you call Yamaha and find out where the closest master mechanic’s are. There was only one between DFW and Austin for me. Took it to them and they fixed the problem.
