Sometimes I use a steel leader, sometimes I don’t. My 85#. Braid is one piece from the three way swivel down to the leader attachment point. In the front eye and out the rear eye with duct tape to secure it in place. The tape holds pretty tight but I can still slide the float one way or the other.
Personally, my catch ratio is the same with rattle floats vs peg floats. I believe it is more important to float the bait off the bottom so the current will disperse the scent better.
I use rattle spooks instead of - but sometimes with a peg float - about 6” above the hook- when drifting. I think they can Help when drifting or trolling.
I’ve had drifts where 6 rods were rigged the same with same bait except 3 had rattle spooks and 3 had peg floats and only the rattle rigs caught fish. Not always but a few times - enough to say I believe they can Help.
