Yeah, you’re not quite understanding how rare a DD is in the Hill County area of Texas. You have a better chance of being bitten by a rattlesnake, than catching a LMB over 8lbs. Rattlesnake and black widow bite, before catching a DD.

Austin area lakes, OH Ivie, JB Thomas are about your only realistic chances for a DD.

Is Canyon capable of producing a DD or maybe even a teener?

Yes, and yes. Especially if, on the rise, the water doesn't outpace the grass. We just need decent incremental rises.

There are ZERO ramps open on Canyon, and I would love to hear from anyone who has caught a bass over 3 lbs on Boerne in the last 10 years.... Kerrville is a beautiful area to live, but dont move there if you want to fish. They have a Wed nighter on one of the 3 little lakes on the Guad every week, and one or two fish win every week. However, there are a lot of creeks that feed the Guad that are a blast to wade fish, and if you are a kayak guy, there are lots of little fun places to go in the hill country. But as far as catching anything over 5 lbs, you will have to drive at least 2-3 hours from Kerrville. You closest best bet would be LBJ or Travis (which is super low and probably wont have open ramps by mid-summer).

In the Hilcountry LBJ is probably the only lake that consitantly kicks out DD. Buchanan, Inks, and LAke Austin would be the next 3.

Other than Ivie, could chase them on Lake Austin, but it would have to be a night. Zero chance of fishing it during the day.

If you say "The redder the better" then Fredericksburg is one you can cross off your list. While there are still lots of old conservatives the town itself is quickly turning into Austin West. Californians are buying it up and running housing costs through the roof. And there are zero places anywhere close to catch a DD unless you are fishing for catfish in the rivers. Now if you like Californians and their crappy wine you'll love Fredericksburg.

Caught my PB (11.2)out of goat creek on outskirts of Kerrville. It was a part of the creek that was dammed up on a buddy’s property. I’ve also seen a couple of 9 lbers caught in town creek which has public access. But your chances of catching a DD on public water in that area are very slim

Catching them is another story. I don't even go to Boerne Lake anymore due to the pressure. It's nuts how many people fish it and it's 13' low (normal pool is 49'). I've done ok out there on white bass but even downsizing and slowing down - a keeper largemouth is hard to come by.

I would say the best bet is Canyon. But good luck launching a boat. I think there are some public ramps available for a significant fee. I've seen some 7-8's come out lately and I'm sure there is a DD in the grass somewhere.

If you don't want to pay private pond money - I would try to launch a kayak on Choke (which I'm going to do). All the highland lakes have a DD in there but are getting pounded right now.

If you have a bass boat and want to chase a giant - I would go to Ivie.

Dare I ask what it costs to fish a private pond?

Thank you. Just crossed that city off the list!

I would stay where you are and fish Dworshak over fishing in Boerne any day of the week.

Thank you for the feedback fellas. Minus not being able to launch a boat, Canyon sounds like the best option in the area unless you want to drive further. Maybe I can talk the wife into moving near Ivie lol. Any nice towns near Ivie?

Tell the wife that! Unfortunately, bass fishing isn't higher on her priority list than her desire to live in a warmer climate confused 3
