You got that right Mark. I got a call from my buddy John Tanner years ago a couple of days after an artic front hit. He had a trip cancel on him and he wanted to know if I wanted to go out.
When we got there I asked him what we were going to do. The front had passed through and the water temp had dropped to 49 degrees that morning. He took me straight to some bed fish. I was surprised to see fish on beds and he said they had made a strong move before the front hit and explained to me how most of those fish were committed and how weather didn't affect them as much as I had thought. He said when the days start getting longer and some warmer weather starts showing up those fish know it's time to do their thing. I caught a nice 6+ lber that morning on a bed and we did some fishing also that I really liked which was slowly twitching Long A's over the beds and getting massive blow ups on the fish that just couldn't stand it.

According to the skunks roaming our neighborhood, they're spawning like mad.

Hell, we got a couple on camera 2 nights ago banging it out.

There's been spawning south of state highway 84 for about three weeks.

Anytime I think they should be in a full blown spawn, they seem to be about half done. I started shallower this year. I couldn't see any on beds but I'm certain a few were.

I saw on another thread that they are spawning at Chick-fil-A (at least in Texas)?

The spawn makes me sad for a few reasons.

1. I don’t enjoy sight fishing or fishing near the bank, I’ve been fishing for years off the bank, well before FFS made it cool.

2. It means the biggest of the biggest fish are no longer at their largest potential weight.

They were on beds in Houston a few days before the freeze.

Man I have a story about catching a raccoon last night. OMG.

I plan on doing lots of bedfishing the next three months.

They were shallow and eating!

2 weeks ago they were locked on beds! Today I felt lucky to see much of anything shallow. 1st wave has done its thing, and OfCourse I missed it again!
