I pulled a lot of the motor apart and I can’t find where a bolt was broken off. I think they broke it putting in the oil pick up tube….then it appears they removed the broken threads and use another bolt. They must have thought it didn’t go into the motor. Oh well.

At least it was in the oil pan and not in the intake / runner / valve area.
I agree that I bet it was for the oil pickup that they over torqued.

Interesting, that looks like the oil drain plug I found on one of my cars the last time I paid to have an oil change. Haha.
Question, does this impala have gold spoke Dayton wheels? Haha. It is all original. The motor was junk, so he wants a brand new LS. So it’s more of a factory style upgrade. I had teammates at college that liked that model of impala. They couldn’t afford the gold Rims, so they went for the discount gold grills instead, ones that went over their teeth…there is a rap Song about it. No NIL then.

Here is a link to the music video if you want to jam out to something different while you put that together.

All that money and he isn’t gonna relocate the coils? And no billet pullies (scratch that it has the March pullies), LS aluminum intake, power adder (supercharger / turbo), etc. AHAHAHAHA

Got all the extra parts requires for the motor. March serpentine belt system and power steering pump, water pump, A/C compressor, high output alternator, and all the sensors and coil pack mounts. Also decided to do the Holley oil pan for extra clearance in the car. Upon flipping over the motor and removing the factory oil pan, I found a “situation”. A busted bolt was laying in the bottom of the oil pan. Remember…this is a zero mile, brand new motor direct from GMPerformance. Haha. Not good. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-93588-261173-img_2858.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-93588-261174-img_2859.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-93588-261175-img_2860.jpeg) I think I need to call GMPerformance and give them the serial number to this motor for documentation ….as a minimum. is there any way to identify where the bolt came from --- maybe in the pan when it was installed --- or broke off somehow after .

It is an identical match to the pickup tube retainer. The tube only uses one bolt. So…I figured they snapped the bolt installing the oil pickup tube, then removed the threads that were left in the block. Grabbed a new bolt and then installed it. I figure the bolt head most have fell into the block and they either though it hit the floor…or simply said screw it. Haha. It has been run on the dyno, so it must have passed their QC. Thankfully the pan was not for the car the motors going in, so I found it when I removed the factory oil pan. I documented everything with GM and with the owner, so I won’t get blamed for failures that might arise down the road.
