What creeks? I see people talk about White Rock creek but have no idea where to try. I am in the same situation, needing to find big shad.

I’ve been to white rock creek multiple times. Never turned out great for me. Is that the only place that produces that size shad?

If landbased, creeks are really your only option right now for big shad and that can be hit or miss. Get on googlemaps/google earth and look around you. White Rock is not the only one. You can also find them at spillways that have enough water. Use cheap castnets and be prepared to lose them.

If you are trying to catch them from a boat then I would start looking in 20' and work my way deeper, check structure and you will need a taped net so it will stay open to the bottom.. If you are trying to catch them from the bank then this time of year creeks are the best places to look. I agree with above that usually muddy creeks on the north end of lake seem to be better. Be prepared to lose nets though. Back when I used to catch them in creeks I had places I could go in creeks and usually find them, but after a big rain the places that used to be clear of snags will sometimes have new snags in them. One thing I used to do in those places is I would take a rod with a heavy bass jig on it and cast out and drag the area really good to check for snags before I would throw my net. I have lost too many nets over the years throwing into areas that I thought were clear.

I have had the best luck catching shad in the ponds all around the industrial warehouses in Lewsiville. Not large though. This time of year I have a few ponds I hit for bluegill or I go to the Asian store and buy a carp.
