Depending on the water body. I have caught Blues with the temperatures well below freezing over the years. I have caught em both pre and post front. Usually with colder temperatures they are in deeper water. Just my two cents. 2cents

The answer is it depends. If the Shad had started to push up shallow before that, and then it hit quickly, there was probably a Shad kill of some type which means you should look shallow. Otherwise chase the bait and the bait will be deep.

Artic weather has passed but this thread reminds me of a few years ago when my stepson booked a catfish trip for us on Tewok in mid February. Temperature was about 18 degrees, boat covered in ice and the shad the guide caught the night before were frozen in the bait box. We waited until 9 am to go out and it was still about 20 degrees. The fish were in the shallows about 2’ - 3’ deep. I caught a 40 lb blue. But, no way I am fishing in that kind of weather again!

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been dragging in the deep water on Eagle Mountain. Not every day of the week but almost. I’ve not gotten a single bite over 28’. Most fish I find are in 18’-25’ of water. But…they must be resident fish because I catch them in the same place all year long. The only big change I’ve seen is just after a good rain. Before Thanksgiving, I caught a 36# blue in water a little over 5’ deep right after a hard rain.

Sweet! I've been wondering about all the arctic weather. Honestly I haven't fished since Thanksgiving.

I was hoping to find out on Saturday. But the painter is showing up Monday morning, so I'm spending the weekend moving furniture around. I know the fun sized ones are being caught below G Dam with the increased water release.

We caught 67 fish over 20 lbs the day after the front hit in 35-37 ft. 2000 lbs for the day. Fish go deep and stack up after a polar front.

There is a fine line between fishing and floating around like an idiot!!
