If Nicholas and Tiger were both in their prime at the same Time , Tiger would eat Jack for lunch, not even a contest. That's saying Jack has the same advantage of the modern sticks and balls so don't argue that.

First of all, at least spell it correctly... Nicklaus

Secondly, there are 4 tournaments that truly count.... The Masters, The United States Open, The British Open ("The Open Championship") , and the PGA.

Jack Nicklaus has 73 top 10 finishes..... 18 wins

If you look at the all time list of most major champions Nicklaus competed against (in order of wins) Hogan (at the end of his career), Gary Player (in his prime), Tom Watson (prime), Sam Snead (still viable but getting older), Arnold Palmer (prime), Lee Trevino (prime), Nick Faldo (entering his prime), Ballesteros (prime), etc.

To say Tiger would "eat," "crush," "smoke," "destroy," etc etc etc Jack Nicklaus is, well, it shows a TOTAL lack of understanding of the game....(it's so ridiculous it has to be troll job)

Incidentally, Tiger has a total of 40 top 10's in the only 4 tournaments that really matter (15 wins) ... and that's by NO means a slight as 40 is incredible.

As I said previously in this thread, I saw em both up close and personal and in their respective primes, and it's very, very, very, very close.... a person cannot be faulted for taking either side as there is a VERY credible argument for either one....

He just very nicely said they were close but not really that close and Jack was waaaay better. Thank you for your service, Mr Slicefixer.

Thank you for the kind words Rescue... MUCH appreciated. I was just lucky, no, blessed to be born into an almost unbelievable golf environment full of world class players. It was almost destined for me to have golf injected into my soul...and it is and has been my whole life... now over 6 decades. It sure goes by fast. They all told me it would and, boy, were they ever correct... hehehe

Somebody said earlier that Tiger was the best over a ten year period, but, Nicklaus the best for a career....have said that same thing for years, so I totally agree.

Tiger was so incredibly dominate for a decade... well over a decade if you count junior and amateur golf (and I do) . He's definitely the best junior and amateur of all time.

But, overall, IMOP, at the highest level and in the 4 that count, it's Nicklaus.

Nicklaus beat guys that are right up there at the tippy top of the all time list and those guys never backed down. They all could hit THE shot, make THE putt, etc when they had to ... that's why they all have 9, 8, etc majors of their own. THAT cannot be easily discounted, but, so many who didn't witness it (nor do they truly *understand") tend to do just that in these debates....

BUT, having witnessed Tiger's greatness I 💯% understand and appreciate those that are adamant that he's the best to ever draw in a breath of air... I just barely disagree.

Tiger in his prime was simply incredible, almost otherworldy at times. The kicker is this, so was Nicklaus, but, most on the Tiger side didn't witness it... I did.

You make a great point…that comment sounds exactly like what a GOAT would say.

I also wanted to add that if Chris B knows anything, it’s golf and GOATs…and if he says Tiger is the GOAT, then Tiger is the GOAT.

I just want to give a shout out to Billy Casper, Peter Thomson, and Tom Weiskopf….three other greats from the Nicklaus era.

Peter Thomson would have won more majors if he had played more in the US……hardly ever played over here…..he did win a five British Opens though.

💯% truth right there.....hated playing in the USA, so he didn't... until he turned 50.... then he did some serious damage... 😉

Tigers life decisions ended his run. The tramps then the accident in the Genesis SUV. Decisions have consequences.

At one point it was a forgone conclusion that Tiger would have more major wins than Jack. He fell short by 3. Nicklaus is the GOAT.

I followed Fuzzy Zoeller in the mid to late 90’s. He was a hoot!

This is undeniable, indisputable, and absolute. I am pretty sure Jack even admitted this when Tiger was crushing at his peak.

Totally different eras….In Jack’s day he said the biggest technological advancement was the lawnmower that mowed the greens….prior to that breakthrough, they putted on wildly fuzzy carpet…..yes I know that is OT approved.

In Tiger’s day, it was trampoline effect drivers and perfect three piece golf balls….totally different game with those sorts of weapons.

Nicklaus proved he could sustain greatness at the highest level longer.

Tiger has even admitted that he peaked at twenty years old. He was invincible as an amateur….no one will ever touch his six amateur titles in a row (they used to count those as majors back in the day….and Tiger would be two up over Jack if they still did)
