18 to 15 Chris.... you ask those guys which tournaments truly matter and they'll all tell you there are only 4....
NOW, with that said, Tiger had as dominant a 10 year period as anyone in sport, and his 3 straight US Juniors and 3 straight US Am's might be his most impressive accomplishment... amongst a whole bunch of em.
IMOP, if FORCED to choose, and it's as close as it gets, it's still Nicklaus... and I saw em both up close and in their primes. But, man, it is so very close and is highly subjective so I certainly understand and respect the other side of the debate.... Straight from the mouth ^^^ of someone who knows! So does Chris B.

Tiger only played Colonial once and was scared to go back because it was too hard for him. Jack N played it just about every year. he was good friends with the Colonial tournament staff & all the golf journalist & the golf writers loved Colonial

In his era, he was without a doubt the best, but the GOAT nope. Jack Nicklaus hands down. Jack is the GOAT. Majors record: Win: 18 Place: 19 Show: 9 Top 5: 56 Top 10: 73 Top 25: 95 Who did Jack compete against? Palmer, Watson, Player to name a few. Tiger Majors record: Win: 15 Place: 7 Show: 4 Top 5: 33 Top 10: 41 Top 25: 59 Who was Tiger competing against? Mickelson is the only one that comes to mind. No contest. Jimmy

Tiger had plenty of great competition….Nick Price, David Duval, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, John Daly (when sober and not having a mental breakdown), Sergio when he didn’t have the yips, Rory when he was good, Koepka, Spieth, Colin Montgomery

A.I., GolfChannel, PGA, WPGA, and many other extrapolatory calculations are well on record as properly predicting that Jack would've won betwixt 27-134 majors had he had the benefit of the same modern equipment, the loaded golf ball, and steroids that Tiger has had access too. The United States Navy Commandant Generally Stanly McRaven is also on record as saying that they would've renamed the SEALs to the BEARs if Mr. Nicklaus would've made them lucky enough to grace their training sessions with his presence.
