In his era, he was without a doubt the best, but the GOAT nope. Jack Nicklaus hands down. I don’t know a lot about golf but I would bet Tiger in his prime would smoke Jack in his prime, maybe with all the AI stuff they could simulate a match Tiger had the best decade. Jack had the best career. Prime Tiger vs Prime Jack would’ve been an epic showdown.

Jack played against better elite competition than Tiger, that did not choke on the home stretch.

Tiger only played Colonial once and was scared to go back because it was too hard for him. Jack N played it just about every year.

It's like the Barry Sanders argument. Yes, he was better for a few years than Emit, Walter P, J Brown, etc. but he didn't have the longevity.
Tiger was definitely more talented in his prime, but he's not the GOAT.

Idiotic! The one time he played it; he finished fourth…..Colonial sets up just fine for him; plenty of corners to be cut on the par 4s and 5s. Tiger had a pattern of taking a week off or two before a major……the old PGA schedule would have had him taking off either the week of the Nelson and/or Colonial. Mr Nelson invited Tiger to play The Nelson when Tiger was an amateur. Tiger always played The Nelson every year when Lord Byron was alive.

18 to 15 Chris.... you ask those guys which tournaments truly matter and they'll all tell you there are only 4....
NOW, with that said, Tiger had as dominant a 10 year period as anyone in sport, and his 3 straight US Juniors and 3 straight US Am's might be his most impressive accomplishment... amongst a whole bunch of em.
IMOP, if FORCED to choose, and it's as close as it gets, it's still Nicklaus... and I saw em both up close and in their primes. But, man, it is so very close and is highly subjective so I certainly understand and respect the other side of the debate.... Straight from the mouth ^^^ of someone who knows!
