Anyone do business with The Fly Shack?
Their prices seem attractive, with lots of flies at $0.89 each.
When I mentioned ETMC, the wife said no Chinese.
Thanks

I ordered some waders on sale from them a few months ago. They were at least $100 cheaper than everyone else’s sale price on the same item. Shipping was quick and didn’t have any issues. I haven’t tried their flies. I use Big Y fly company a lot- their flys are about the same price. I’ve been tying my own flies the last few months, but the ones I bought were decent quality. I’ve bought a lot of tying materials . They usually have a discount code on FB for another 15-20% discount ( current code is fb2025) and you also build discount point with every order. They always call me if they are out of something and customer service is great. Only issue I’ve had is USPS temporarily losing packages.

You guys might like to see TexasFlyCaster's YouTube videos (2) about buying Temu fly tying supplies direct from China, cheap. If you haven't. YMMV IslandJim

Won't do me any good as I am heating impaired and the wife is not in favor of buying Chinese,
Thanks for the insight though, it is appreciated.

Big Y is a good place to buy flies. Sierra Trading Post has great prices on flies and all sorts of fly fishing gear. It’s closeout stuff, but their prices are pretty hard to beat.

Another vote for Big Y here. Their flies seem to hold up okay for me. I'm in N Cal so I've bought a lot of their steelhead flies. I did have a hook break off of a big steelhead bugger after working it over a rocky bottom where it got into some fast water but I'd expect any of the cheaper flies from anywhere are going to be tied on lower quality hooks than if you were to by a commercial fly from Solitude or Umpqua, etc. Any time I've had an issue with an order they've been more than willing to make it right. Their house flies are tied in Kenya, so your good on the 'no China' rule. They also have sales frequently so I'd recommend getting on their email list.

Thanks.
Actually I have read that flies tied in Kenya really helps the local economy there. Most of the tiers are female and it allows them to make a living.
My wife would divorce me if I used TEMU and paid for the bill with my Discover card, nah she would just shoot me.

Yeah, I am not a promoter for China (avoided tictok like the plague), but I had to see what the fuss was all about. I must say, thousands more people watched a video about TEMU than they did about a DFW fly shop. That tells me something ... I am a bit slow, so I don't know what it tells me, but something ... My thinking is - Kenya flies are subpar. Where do we think those supplies that are sold in the USA come from? (With the exception of furry stuff.) And where do we think Sierra is getting those flies from? If we want cheap? I like roadkill myself.

HMMM your hesitation makes me think ... and ask another boogieman website ChatGPT. Here is what the BOT said:
Temu is an online marketplace operated by PDD Holdings, the parent company of China's Pinduoduo. Launched in the United States in September 2022, Temu offers a wide range of heavily discounted consumer goods, primarily shipped directly from China. Since its inception, the platform has expanded rapidly, operating in 80 countries and achieving an estimated $50 billion in annual revenue by 2024. FINANCIAL TIMES
Temu's business model focuses on connecting China-based vendors directly with consumers, eliminating intermediaries to offer products at lower prices. This approach has led to significant growth, with the platform reaching approximately 420 million monthly website visits and over 130 million app downloads globally by early 2024. WIKIPEDIA, THE FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA
However, Temu has faced several controversies and legal challenges. Investigations by European consumer protection authorities have identified issues such as fake discounts, misleading information about customer rights, and high-pressure sales tactics. Additionally, concerns have been raised about data privacy, forced labor practices, and intellectual property violations. THE IRISH SUN CSIS
In terms of legal compliance, Temu has been accused of circumventing U.S. laws designed to prevent forced labor and exploiting tariff loopholes to avoid paying duties. Reports suggest that some products sold on the platform may violate U.S. regulations aimed at preventing the import of goods produced through forced labor. CSIS
Furthermore, Temu has been involved in legal disputes with competitors, notably Shein. These disputes include allegations of copyright infringement and anti-competitive practices, leading to multiple lawsuits between the two companies. TIME
Overall, while Temu has experienced rapid growth and expanded its global presence, it continues to navigate various legal and ethical challenges related to its business practices.

Thanks for your efforts, interesting reading.
I was responsible for my step-mother when she no longer could handle her own affairs.
She was the victim of identify theft for a substantial amount when I took over .
We have also been victim of identity theft as well.
Thus, we are careful where and when we use our credit card. For the most part, we never put our card on the .www when ordering.
Thanks again

Completely understandable! I have been using MAC computers for more than 30 years, and that helps me with feeling secure ... so far ...

I’ve used the Fly Shack in Gloversville NY for my fly tying supplies for quite a few years. They have good prices and quality material. Their flies are adequate, you certainly can’t beat their price. I usually get an item or two back ordered when i buy material but they are easy to work with.
