Do you know what kind it is?

Before my bad case of shin splints I used to run the Rowlett Creek trails. Almost everytime I would see the most beautiful ribbon snakes. They were so colorful. It made me want to learn more about snake identification. I dont think I have ever seen this kind of snake before.

Had to run over the biggest snake I've ever seen yesterday. Oncoming traffic and no shoulder, cars behind me, and kids in the backseat. Made me sick to do it. Thick as my forearm and who knows how long. I love snakes and encourage them in my yard and garden.

Great photo.

When I was a kid my brother and I used to race BMX. We went to the O'Banion trails in Garland to ride "The Bowl" which was a dry creek and we would go down the incline of one side and jump the other side and then go right back and do it again over and over. One day my brother went in front of me and somewhere between him going through the bottom of the creek and me coming through, which was a time of no more than 30 seconds, a tree fell down in the trail and I had to "bunny hop" over the tree with no warning. I was pissed that my lil brother didnt shout out to me that a tree fell across the trail. He looked at me like I was stupid and said "what tree?" We all looked back, there were a lot of riders there that day, and it was no tree, it was a python almost 12 feet long and as big around as my thigh. We all watched in awe as it slithered on by completely ingnoring us. That thing must have fed on dogs and small children.

I know full well that pythons are not native to Texas and it must have been someones pet at one time. They are not all urban myths.

I once crashed a Vespa by hitting a rat snake at WOT on a country road.

Not a pleasant time for myself of the rat snake.

lol! I bet that hurt.

This thread is bringing back a lot of memories. Your slip and slide on the rat snake with the Vespa reminds me of a time when I was a lil kid in Houston and I was riding my bike through a parking lot and I saw a banana peel. I had seen sooo many cartoons of characters slipping on banana peels that I thought I would try and ride over it and see what happened. Next thing I know I am pulling my head out of the storm drain and picking the asphalt pebbles out of the skin on my elbows!
