Caught this one. 16. 36 Lbs. Pending waterbody record. The water body has clear running water going through it. Fish was feeding at the end of some small rapids.

Side Note: Usually release em, but my wife who is a very good cook and knows how to prepare all types of fish including carp wanted me to bring one home for her to prepare and cook. Never ate a carp before and this one was my first. It was very, very good. She was able to make four meals from this one.

Dinner!

Nice start to 2025. Dinner looked good. How was the taste? I am sure the clear water was a good thing for the flavor. I have eaten buffalo, but not carp. Were the bones a problem?

Bones were not a problem and the meat is pure white. Wife baked it after marinating it overnight. There was no fishy taste at all. Last month she prepared a Small Mouth Buffalo that I had caught and served it on the half shell. It was fantastic. First time I had Small Mouth Buffalo. This was that dinner.

Were you targeting carp?

Thanks GTrigg and Tommar for the replies. Tommar: I mainly fish for the Blue Gill (Sunfish) and Rio Grande Cichlids . Every now and then I will target other fish. I was targeting carp when I caught this one.


Side Note: I have caught a wide variety of different fish while fishing for Bluegill (Sunfish). Just about every fish loves a Night Crawler.

I was just wondering if you caught that tank on a light rod!

Yes Sir. Six pound test line, five foot Ugly Stick rod, and a small Shakespeare Reel. Instead of using my favorite bait (Night Crawlers) I opened a can of Walmart, Great Value corn. The fight was about 15 minutes. Had to tire it out.

Great way to start the year Chuck. Nice fish and a good job landing the fish on the tackle you were using. Carp are great fighters.



Side Note: Did your wife grill the buffalo?

Thank you Sir. I had never eaten a carp in my life until I got recently married about a year ago. My wife is a excellent cook and knows how to prepare and cook all types of food, especially fish. She is from China and I have learned a lot from her. She cooks healthy and we have vegetables and fruit with just about every meal. As the old saying goes. "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." I can prove that wrong. I have changed this past year for the better!

Side Note: For the first time in my life, I have eaten both Common Carp and Small Mouth Buffalo and both were GREAT!
