I get mine every year. Including the "probe" for the prostate check. The bloodwork is pretty extensive, I don't feel like I am missing out on anything.

FYI:
On the yearly Medicare checkup do not ask any extra questions or ask for any other exams, they are not covered by the "free exam". You mentioned something I heard a couple of times from the doctor and it did not register until you mentioned it. He mentioned Medicare and he never has said that before. Other thing was he said a couple of times, "We are here to help you".

""probe" for the prostate check" is no longer done & replaced by blood work detail. I am on Medicare. Last "Wellness" checkup was last week (Feb. 4). Did NOT miss "rubber glove treatment"!!

Just before I went on Medicare, I got the full treatment exam. Since I have been on Medicare, I go twice a year and it's a very simple exam and a blood draw. Usually in and out in 20 minutes because I get early appointments.

You need both, the labs and the exam because elevated PSA levels can also be caused by infection and BPH. Add in the fact you can still have prostate cancer and your PSA level could be absolutely normal.

My wife and I see our Family physician 2 times a year for "checkups". Long gone are the days of physical exams. These exams now are simply Blood pressure, oxygen, listening to lungs and heart with a stethoscope, looking in the ears and nose, answering a ton of stupid questions, and a blood draw for a few different panels. We both have Medicare and Supplemental Gap medical insurance. The ACA (obamacare) act took away paying for actual physical exam stuff, like chest xray, ECG, prostate check for men, etc. So we are left with what I consider much less of an actual physical exam. I had a long talk yesterday with the Doc about this. Why is Medicare so interested in whether I can open a pill bottle, draw the hands on a clock, or how I feel about my life? Medicare is a government entity that could not care less about my well being. I don't want to give them any info, just Pay the Doctor for any health issues I might have incurred. After all, I pay them a tremendous amount for Medicare and the Supplement plan. Rant over. Carry on with yer bad selves. At least they didn't ask you how many guns you have in your home. That used to be part of the questionnaire.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Five years ago I had one year of Obamacare, simply because I retired early, I had my regular doctor of 20+ years but he wouldn't take Obamacare, so my first visit under Obamacare, after filling out all the paperwork, family history (father had prostate C.) bloodwork was drawn, few days later I get a call with results, I asked how's my PSA count? Oh we only do that test once a year!!! What? Long story I ended up going to a Tom Thumb only after this physician gave me a referral to get a bloodwork PSA count,so glad to turn 65 and get my doctor back.

That used to be part of the questionnaire. I talked with my Doc about this when we discussed Medicare being way too much into our info. He said if they forced him to ask about guns, he would tell them to grab their bottom lip and pull it up over the top of their head. He claims the info in our files at his office are not discussed or given to medicare folks. I hope that is correct. My Doc however has hinted strongly that he is conservative, so I'm good with it. It doesn't cost me a penny for most every visit, so there is that.

I see my primary care physician twice a year for a complete check-up. Interesting. So it is a complete physical exam? Maybe I just picked the wrong primary care facility. I don't know how old you are exactly, but I would wonder a little bit if they aren't checking your prostate.
The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.

I go once a year for the "exam" It is not a complete physical anymore. They want to spend less money and hope that any issues will be evident in the blood work.
If not, they really don't care. However, I don't miss the aforementioned exam.

I don't know how old you are exactly, but I would wonder a little bit if they aren't checking your prostate. I will be 71 next week. I have my PSA checked 2 times a year in bloodwork. Up until 3 years ago, I got the finger. This current Doc told me they only check for nodules, lumps during the finger test. That is all they can tell, then they refer you to a Urologist for further tests, biopsies etc. So the Doc is saying that they rely mostly on PSA readings. Kenner is correct in that PSA alone is not a good indicator. But this all is what it is I suppose. I could, at any time make an appointment to have the digital rectal exam should I choose, but I would have to pay for it, which is not a problem for me either.

A man getting a physical. The Doctor tells him ok, take off your trousers and underwear and bend over. The man asks" where should I put my clothes?". The Doc says "Over there on the chair next to mine."
