I never really thought they were that great. Like they got hot in the '90s, then in the 2000s creature baits started coming out and nobody cared about a lizard. Which makes sense cuz if you think about it, I've spent a lot of time in lakes, swimming and snorkeling around. Staring down into the water. I've never once seen anything that looked like a lizard walking around. And I don't think lizards just fall off trees into the water all that often. I don't see a big population of newts out there

Fishing mainly Fork through the 90's and 00's me and some buddies would start night fishing around Memorial Day through to about November. Then we would night fish Monticello through to the end of the year. We mainly threw 3 baits. Hilldebrandt Go Getter Black Spinnerbait with large Colorado blade, Berkley 10" Red Shad Power worm on Texas and Carolina Rig. And a Texas rigged Gene Larew Hawg Craw usually in Black Neon color. Some of the biggest fish caught was on the HawgCraw and I also used it for my main Texas rig bait during tournaments until Mark Pack brought out the CrawTube. I still used the Hawg Craw off and on but now looking back I can't remember using one for at least the last 10 to 15 years. Last edited by TBassYates; 02/14/25 06:47 PM.
