I have a 1652 aluminum flat bottom boat with a 60/40 outboard jet that I ride the rivers with. Any reason I can’t use it in saltwater every now and then? Went to Rockport and fished the shallow waters with relatives this fall and we did lots of pushing out of the mud/sand.

Only if you are 100% certain you have a saltwater motor and a galvanized trailer.

I have neither, I guess I won’t be doing that.

Your motor and boat are fine.
Painted trailer? It's dead after you dunk it in the brine, no amount of washing will save it.

My trailer is a Kodiak trailer, has some kind of “special” coating on it that is even rusting a little under a carport. I think the salt water bath would definitely be the end of it. My goal is to build an aluminum trailer for it one day.

Thanks for the info.

That's a good rig for getting into and especially out of the places the prop guys won't go. I'd be saving nickles to get a saltwater ready trailer if you're going to use it a few times a year.

Only modifications I did to the jet was take out the grates, keeps you from getting shut down in the matted up grass, it just spits it out. A oyster shell will shut you down though, so there's a compromise. Swap out the aluminum impeller for a stainless, and they'll live a much longer life.
