Monday was easy, Roanoke, Fort Worth, and Aledo

Tuesday was dallas, Rockwall, and Grand Prairie

Wednesday was awesome, South Dallas down 67 to Cleburne, and then down 67 to Glenn Rose

Today is Lewisville to highland village to little elm and then up to Sherman.

I like any of the highways and toll roads that go across lakes. I’m not a fan of toll roads, but they are a necessary evil when I need to get to an appointment on time.

Running the road is a learned skill for sure. Thank goodness I don't have to be stuck in one area, if I had to negotiate just DFW or Houston I'd be a (more) raving lunatic.

Waze is your best friend, it's gotten me around some major shutdowns. Last week was Seadrift to Baytown, Beaumont, Lufkin to Pittsburg (dinner with Bob Davis) then home. Next week (weather permitting) Midland, Lubbock, Abilene, San Angelo. After you do this a bit, you'll have your opinions on how to setup your vehicle, what is important to always have on hand, where to stay, where to stop and eat, and more important, where NOT to go.

For 20+ years I was on the road... My territory was most everything east of the Mississippi River... Although I did get to Missouri, Arkansas and Texas on occasions... Put over 65K miles a year on my company truck... Even managed to fly 10-15 trips a year also... I prefered driving because I had some control... Fly, the minute you went through security you were at the mercy of the airlines... Dan

Roger that, I only fly now when I go to Mexico. Just because I don't drive there anymore.

I was also a road warrior for many years. Started by driving all over the SE, staying in below average hotels and eating fast food carp all the time. Then I got a transfer to DFW and ended up traveling Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana pretty extensively for 25 years, fortunately on a higher budget. Then I started flying, all over the US, that I really hated.

I still like to take road trips, it’s in my blood I guess.

If it's over a 3 hour drive I'm flying.

Now see, that's the equation.
Closest airport is Corpus, hour and a half away. Houston is 2 1/2 hours, about the same for San Antonio or Austin.

Midland is a seven hour trip. Oh my gosh, that's a long drive, I'm flying.
By the time you get to the airport, do all the check in nonsense, finally arrive (maybe), get your rent car and be where you're supposed to be, you're an hour behind me driving.

I would never stay at any place lower than a Hampton Inn... My boss was a Red Roof kinda guy and always gave me sh!t when he reviewed my expense reports... I asked if I got bed bugs would the company pay to have my home exterminated... He said no... So I continued to stay in Hilton chain hotels... Loved the Hilton Garden Inns... Room, restaurant and bar in one location... I know you can get them anywhere, I just had confidence in Hilton... I'm still a Diamond member (with a 1,000,000+ points) and haven't traveled for work in over in 7 years... Dan

I actually miss traveling sometimes.

Been in every state but three. Flew most of the time. 5 1/2 hours was my limit to drive. There was way too much convenience in driving your own car because you had so much freedom.

Drive to airport 3/4 hour
Check in and wait for flight 1 1/2 hours
Flight time to Dallas as reference 3/4 hour (driving was 4 1/2 hours)
Deboard and rental car 3/4 hour
Add an hour for freedom to leave when I want and no airport hassles

White knuckle drive down I35 home should deduct and hour but whatever.....

Once I moved up the ladder a rung or two my hotel choices improved dramatically, food too.

Retirement is great. I don’t go anywhere I don’t want to…and these days it seems the list of places I don’t want to go to gets bigger and bigger.

notice also, Wool E., that you don't get the flu and other transmittable diseases; the flu is everywhere here in Nac;
