Do you have a predator proof coop?

Any color sex link hen will be a good layer. I’ve had best luck with the gold, red, and brown ones. Brown leghorns are great also.

There are too many to list, Production Reds, Leghorns, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, look on backyardchickens, you can find out about anything you need to know.

Predator proof cage is more challenging than most realize. There should be some stories about the predators members here have had to dealt with.

We had Rhode Island Reds when I was younger, once mature hens produced a large egg per day.

It seems like they laid for two and a half years and slowed down production from there.

You'll get more eggs usually from a Production but their life expectancy is less, up to like half the others so need to weigh that when you decide.

Good ole white leghorns will lay more than any.
They are a bit flighty and skittish
Production reds are chill and lay well too just not as often

I get the most double yolk eggs from the sex links

I don't eat eggs so it doesn't matter to me just sounds like a lot of trouble for an egg

If you don’t like eggs then yes it would be a hassle. I don’t eat eggs every day and actually give away way more than we keep.
That being said I feed a lot of corn in my feed and man I like those dark yellow/orange yolks when I crack em.

The Rhode Island Reds are about as good a laying hen as you can get. Very calm. Not gonna set very often. Eggs are large and brown. Nothing like a fresh egg.

Now the RIR roosters, they don’t play. I free range my hens and the roosters do a very good job, but they ain’t scared of humans either.

Dominiquers are another excellent breed. The roosters of this breed are pretty calm, as are the hens.

The “Orpingtons are also very nice and are beautiful birds. And are great if you want a hen that will set, hatch, and raise chicks.

Now for just numbers of white eggs, the leghorns cannot be beat. They are production birds and are nuts. Ha. The brown leghorn, not as bad, but flighty is being nice. I don’t mess with them any more. Ha.

I gathered 10 eggs this evening. Good luck if you go forward.

Jeremiah 7:28 KJV

But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

Galatians 4 : 16

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
