I would say it IS boastful, nobody would boast without backing it up, boasting isn't necessary but it feeds his ego and probably helps his business. Can't fault him for having an ego, plenty of that these days. Like you said, he catches big fish. I've become a big fan, I understand his personality, and he is clearly a top tier big bass angler.

Guy posts two fish yesterday that look like idk 8 pounders maybe but if you look closely and have half a brain you can tell he’s in his old phoenix. Well, now he’s in an icon. Yep that’s the photo he deleted after adding a caption “I’m not gonna fillet these two”. Now if you look at his fb the post is gone claiming he caught them yesterday and instead he put it as his wall paper with an edited rainbow background not showing it’s out of his old boat. It’s comical and so easy to see through.

Present pics I could agree with, last years pics acting like they are current is misleading. I’d assume guys willing to pay his fee would want more current pics and not something from years back. If they are older pics it tells me he ain’t catching current or he would post current pics.

I think JJ is posting giving the impression that they are new pics, like “look at me, I’m out here at ivie, come book me, I’m on them” if they are old pics, they’re irrelevant, people will want new pics new info on the fishing now, not last year

But yeah, agreed, it's not cool to say "look what I did yesterday come book with me", when it was a year prior. Hopefully people do their homework before booking with any guide tho

haha Frank. Thanks for the good laugh. I'll add JJ to the long list of people whom I am not. I don't use instagram, facebook, tick tok, slapface, and the like so the only bits of bass fishing drama I see are either on here or youtube. I've taken the time to listen to some podcasts with JJ.

Nobody is dictating where I go fishing. I've never been to OH Ivie, and probably never will, there are plenty of lakes that offer big fish to catch. I'll go to the ones I want, not the ones that someone on facebook is promoting.

If I were him, I would hit the road to other waters, he has done a bit of this, he should do more and more of it and spend more time teaching, I think that guy has a lot to teach regarding FFS and I think he could make just as much or more sharing it to youtube than he will on a guide trip, maybe I'm wrong...

Hey, I think he should have a better youtube channel, but he isn't doing it yet.

He isn’t capable of doing a channel like that. His schedule for one doesn’t allow it. Have you ever shot and edited and produced a video? How about a channels worth? It’s a ton of work. That’s why folks like Milliken hire a person to shoot and produce the videos. So they can concentrate on fishing and the direction of the channel. I know a guy that did/does all his own stuff in another genres. His job, his channel, his patreon, etc etc. the dude hardly sleeps. You can’t fish all day with clients and keep a boat prepared and drop content all the time by yourself unless you want to kill yourself. YouTube is a fickle too…you stop or slow down and people wander off from you.

I don't disagree with you on this. But he's making $2000 a day, he can hire a camera guy to be on the boat one day a week to create content. Most of the guys doing these have a friend who starts with them, then they venture out on their own.

Jacob Wheeler, is a good example. Brody was / is his camera guy for years. Brody traveled with JW and captured all their adventures for the channel.

Maybe he wants his $2000 all for himself.. plus you can’t hide where and what you are fishing as well on a video.

JJ used to have a monopoly; he was literally one of the first people in the country to have forward facing sonar through a chance encounter. He capitalized on the luck and mastered it before anyone else.

I'd still argue he's likely the best with the tool, but the gap that was light years has now closed to a few inches. There are a ton of guys now that are extremely capable. (I am not one of them!) It's so much more than just reading the screen.

Same with Youtube, it used to be easy to make a buck, now it's gotten extremely hard. Some of these guys used to be making tens of thousands per month off views, but as others have mentioned it's a fickle beast. Now many have to grind and create content daily to make a fraction of that. There's lots of competition.

Making a living bass fishing is TOUGH. Doing it for the long haul is extremely tough. Wind, weather, sun. Social media hate. Always gone, never home. Kids you barely see. Sky high divorce rates. Self-doubt. Crazy customers. Fish that sometimes just won't bite.

My hats off to them for living their dream. Sometimes I'm jealous, though when I really stop to think about it... I'm fine in this office fishing when I get the chance. Absence makes the fishing heart grow fonder.

Anyway, I hope the stars align and one of these guys catches a fish to give the state record a run. She's out there... Ivie is the place to be.

I’ve bass fished for 30 years off and on and only have 1 fish over 10#.
Not everyone posts everything online and I get that. But I am truly curious….

Most the fisherman on here have regular jobs. I'm betting more than a few on here could catch as many if that's what they did for a living.

4 is my DD count, he has caught more than me in one day probably, haha.

I can think of one guy immediately. Not going to name him because he stays out of the mass whinefest and is highly regarded by most on this page. He is an OG for catching big fish.

I went to High School with JR Howard and his brother Dwayne out in Sterling City, Texas. Ivie was our area’s go to lake. Both of them can definitely catch some big fish!

JR had 45 DDs from December of ‘10 - Halloween of ‘11 according to a post he made.

Not sure how that compares to JJ

I know JR pretty good, Fished with him on several occasions, Still talk to him sometimes. He caught his DD with no Live scope or FFS.

Around 07 we were in that hourly bb deal they had at ivie. We came in to weigh a fish and JR was beached next to us. He had 3 9s in the well and was just sitting there waiting to wiegh in every hour.

Yes, back in the hay days at Falcon. I had 5 over 10 lbs in one spot on a cold Feb day in less than 45 min. But I never got one over 13 lbs in the boat. Had many get me in the brush and break off. That was before live scope. You certainly have to know where to go look for those giants even with live scope. Josh is very good at that.
