18 ft, 1980's Charger, Mariner 150 Magnum
Thinking about putting in hydraulic steering.
There is a big price difference between Sea Star and Vevor brands.
For such an old boat, would you consider Vevor?
$1,000 difference in price.

I got slung out of a boat when the hydraulic steering failed, went into a turn, motor went full lock, didn't have enough [censored] to straighten itself out. Boat cockscrewed into the water and slung me 60 feet.
I am a cheapskate, but some things not so much. The capability of hydraulic systems is misleading, Seastar bay star unit claims "150" but it's not capable of holding a V6 torque. I'm not telling you what to do, I am telling you to be careful.

So, are you don't trust ANY hydraulic systems?

Not at all. Just make sure whatever you choose is adequate. I run hydraulic on my shallow sport. That boat would spin out in a heartbeat if it got sloppy.

Your life isnโt worth saving a few bucks.
Get a Dometic SeaStar setup.
