Hello. Were from Montana and looking for advice on a mid-March fishing trip for me and 4 employees, 1-day deep sea and 1-day inland fishing.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good and private charter with laid back guide/captain. Don't really want to be on a boat with a big group of strangers. We were looking at Galveston and Port Aransas.

Any info is appreciated.

Iā€™d get with capt Andrew, he posts here. He works out of South Padre/ Port Isabel/ Arroyo City. That area beats all other locations in Texas.

Jump on here for offshore. Capt Mat is great. Been fishing with him for years. Can't help with inland or did you mean inshore fishing? If so, Mat may have some suggestions.

Freeport is just down the coast a few miles from Galveston and closer to the offshore fishing. Here is where Mat usually posts.

March weather is at best a [censored] shoot. It could be 80 degrees and beautiful, it could be 40 degrees and you wouldn't even think about going out.

The further south you go, the better the odds of tolerable conditions. You can fish the lower laguna in 30 mph wind without much effort, there's no way you're going to be in Galveston bay. Flying into Harlingen or Brownsville is FAR less painful than flying into Houston and battling that nightmare.

Offshore in March will probably be a no-go unless you just happen to time it perfectly which is highly unlikely. I own a sportfish boat out of Freeport, and we haven't made a trip in March in the last 8 years......and when it is calm enough to go fish offshore....we go.....year round. (double overnighter trips for blue marlin)

Maybe try to come in duck season and do a cast and blast with Bay Flats Lodge....first class operation. Or just go bay fishing with them the whole time whenever you want.

I would avoid Galveston/Freeport area for inshore fishing......it tends to be better further down the coast.

Yeah, fishing here in Seadrift was outstanding until this big weather came in, but it'll be good again next week.

Ducks have been pretty spotty so far, but seeing quite a few flights today, last two weeks of the season should be really good.

Bay Flats is a 1st class operation, they'll take care of you top to bottom, if you come in a day early hit me up, we live right around the corner from their lodge.

But, Seadrift is in no way a offshore destination, we're 30 miles from the nearest Gulf access.

I would just stay inshore in March. Lower Laguna Madre or farther south.

I am a full time guide out of Galveston / Freeport area. My 26ft bay boat is large enough to do both. Benefit of that is that if your offshore day turns out to be a no-go due to conditions then you still get your second day in the bay. Get with me.....happy to get yall out on the boat and make some memories.
