Fires burn very intense, no doubt. Some plants have resins that make them burn longer and more intense. But actually exploding, no.

If you ever burned along river and creek bottoms in Texas, you've probably heard the popping sounds that river cane makes when it burns, kind sounds like a fire cracker from a distance. that isn't exploding either.

The only trees i've ever seen actually explode, were trees we wrapped in explosives and blasted with det cord. Very large, burning, but still standing dead trees that needed to be removed, but couldn't be safely cut with chainsaws.

They rapidly combust but they don't explode.

Maybe there was something in the area that was exploding, propane tanks or something.

The absolutely most intense wildfires, sounds more like freight trains, its kind of an eeery unique sound that I've only ever heard once. I worked with several men that were at South Canyon in Colorado, that killed several men, and thats what they used to described what they heard, a freight train.

If you're interested, there is a good book Norman McClean wrote about that fire;

https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/166900.Fire_on_the_Mountain

Really bad situation, but a lot was learned from their mistakes.

I've seen trees suddenly burst into flames but the trunk didn't explode.

I've heard trees make a loud popping noise in extreme low temps. I think that's how a burl is formed.

at PK, the fire was burning so fast, that i think if you had like a mylar suit
you could have stood in the coastal field & it would have burned right past you
i guess you & Reel are right, but something was making a lot of noise
we had a boat on a trailer, the tires melted but the boat & trailer were fine

i am definitely interested in the book
thanks

Whoa, i'm glad your boat made it out mostly unscathed! The year of the fire at PK, the state was so busy it seemed like over the course of that year there were fires all over every corner of the state. Hopefully we don't have it quite that bad again.

I looked at some fire updates over there in California, it looks like the crews are making good progress, it sounds like all the firefighters have stayed safe. Lord willing they'll remain safe.

Probably some bum or arsonist or maybe a bum thats an arsonist, but i'm not catching the connection between a human caused fire start and anything to do with climate change. What would an example of a climate change caused wildfire?

I think the proper argument for those that believe in climate change would be that climate change has exacerbated the situation and made controlling wildfire once they do start. Maybe i'm wrong.

People are blaming climate change for the fire.

it hasn't rained there since last April and the Santa Ana winds that blew in excess of 80MPH. I think thats the proper argument from a climate change perspective is not that the fire started because of climate change. but rather that the extreme conditions that contributed to rapid fire spread is a result of climate change.

The words get easily minced. The fire didn't start because of climate change, it sounds like they started because someone started them. I would say its debatable that the record high winds and drought (hasn't rained since last April) could be considered indicators of climate change by some.

What makes me the most upset about these sorts of scenarios is the looting that goes. Looters have to be the absolute scum of the earth, they should take away their citizenship if they have them, and let them serve some hard time at Guantanamo Bay.

Looters make my blood boil.

I’m not making the argument. Like a lot of what I’ve said in this thread, I’m simply telling you what other people are saying. I think you severely underestimate how looney a lot of people in California are.
