With as many flight hours as those things have on them I'd be a little worried about yank'in and bank'in too much. Damn wings might come off.

Unfortunately there are 4.5M more Kamala sympathizers in our great state of Texas than there is in ID. Less people equals less problems, almost always.

Just saw this video on YT. I've been down that part of the PCH many many times. It gives a pretty good view of the type of terrain that these homes are built upon. Pretty amazing.

Its a shame they did away with this plane, fond memories of jumping out of that thing and landing on grass airstrips in remote parts of ID and MT

I've driven some parts of this coast in the videos, the homes were extravagant, yet so close to each other. I wonder if that played a roll in this. The fire spread so fast with the wind and without that break in property lines, it gave it master fuel to rage on.

It doesn't take much, when its dry embers from theses fires seem to find just about anything to ignite. I've seen houses well away from the main fire slowly start to catch fire, usually its just a gutter full of dry leaves or something similar. If someone was there, they could easily put it out at first, but when left unchecked obviously things can go bad quickly.

Some of those houses were saved by luck, some by how they were constructed, some how they were maintained, or a combination of those 3 factors. People should install significant sprinkler systems around their house and on their roofs, and somehow collect water into their own cisterns and not rely on the grid for their fire protection, thats what I would do. Keep my house clean, and turn the sprinklers on when things get rowdy. Some could probably use their swimming pool to pull double duty and draft from.

It will absolutely be expensive, but not doing anything is considerably more expensive. They’re already looking at over 3 billion and it’s not even over yet. My entire point in this thread is, the state and local government is inept, corrupt, and clueless.

A large reservoir in Palisades was taken offline and emptied for maintenance and the city can’t even say how long it’s been offline.

https://www.latimes.com/california/...sades-a-key-reservoir-nearby-was-offline

I’m not saying they could prevent these fires, or stop the winds, or that water is going to put them out, or prescribed burns are the only solution, I’m just saying there are all of these things that are an issue, and have been for long enough that Trump was talking about them in his first term, and local and state officials keep deflecting, not answering, pointing fingers, etc. California is like the seventh largest economy in the WORLD. Somehow it’s broke. The issue isn’t the money. The issue is competent people running the show.

The fire department is LA is run by four lesbians, at least one of whom had no fire experience. Just look at this headline from 2023:

[Linked Image]

Or this video that’s been circulating social media from last night. This is one of the women mentioned above.

[Linked Image]

Before she says what’s quoted about being able to carry a man out of a burning building, she says people (the residents of LA) care more about someone who looks like them showing up to the scene of a fire because it’s more comforting. Then she says it’s your husband’s fault for being trapped in a burning building.

The fire budget was cut by $17 million. The new mayor proposed that it be cut by $49 million! She wanted almost $50 million cut. The republican she beat was talking about needing to do something about wildfires. The state earmarked $1.3 billion for the homeless problem and the issue keeps getting worse (on top of the fact homeless people are starting the fires this week, apparently).

California has the money. It just doesn’t have the people in charge to take it seriously. They cut the budget, spend several times more on things that are a problem because of their policies (homelessness) and not an issue that will be fixed by money, and also care more about DEI, what prescribed burns might do to the rich people’s view or it might smell like smoke for a week, or they can’t add reservoirs because some obscure fish nobody’s ever heard of might be impacted (turns out that fish is expanding and not endangered).

My issue with all of this is, the state is negligent and has been for decades.

Did anyone else hear the audio played on AM stations/dfw this morning, of the woman who approached Gavin Newsome live, asking what he's doing to help?
He pretended to be "on the phone with the President," and the distraught woman demanded to hear the phone call.
She wanted to talk to biden.

Newsome lied and said he couldn't get cell service.

What a disgrace...yet, the majority of California residents KEEP voting blue!

...!

but what about the smelt? Those rare (invasive) fish are more important than people and their lives and things.

haha, thats part of our countries political problem, the smelt have absolutely nothing to do with this problem. Supplies of NorCal water has nothing to do with this. There is billons of gallons of water in LA County, its localized infrastructure weaknesses and how water is able to move to high elevation locations when demand is high.
