I really don’t understand hate against older anglers fishing tournaments. I used to love this forum…. But lately it’s been a bashing board for older men. The “new balance” and other insults are sad. I’ve always liked the fact that professional fishing had a place for older men. I had always admired the older men around me. It’s a shame that we have resorted to insulting. The bass fishing community is already small.
The bass fishing community isn't small, it's bigger than it ever has been. BASS has been proclaiming that viewership was at record highs last year. Personally I want to see the best fishermen competing, not the best fishermen from 10 years ago. I don't care what the age of the angler is. If you can compete you stay, if not, you're out. I think this is where most come down. I think some of the angst about changing of the gaurd has been from the realization that rather than be a true competition it's more a sales pitch and people who may not truly be compatitive at the highest level are protected because their name is associated with sponsors. I want to see the best, using the best technology.

Amen, amen, and amen. John Piper calls this illness “chronological snobbery.” I’m starting to wonder why I waste time on this forum anymore.

Im older so I remember when the world in general was a much more civil place. If your guy lost a presidential election you’d say congrats, we will get you next time, and that was it, you’d go on with your life. No hate, no I’m moving to another country if XYZ gets elected. No divorces over elections. No youngsters calling older gentlemen the New Balance, handicap space needing crowd. But now everyone is a keyboard kowboy who hide behind the anonymity of a fake name and spew. I personally dont care who wins pro tournaments as long as it’s entertaining to me. Everyone is different as to what entertains them but give me a frogging shallow bite tournament any day over a FFS tourney. But that’s just me. How about we do something different and quit putting each other down and just talk about how to catch more fish. Just a thought.

Are you sure? Or just perpetuating your own narrative to feel relevant in your own argument. I only see you disrespecting the older men or people who think that FFS may not be good for bass fishing.
Name 1 guy under the age of 40 that complains constantly. Zaldain is probably the closest to the age group, but I’m guessing he’s over 40. LOL, Jacob Foutz. That dude whines like a litte b*tch

The days of ESPN/Walmart/Citgo are long gone.

Grandbassslayer, Did you watch the video he put out last year, he was whining from start to finish. that kind of cemented him in the whiner category for me, at least for the time being. I looked for the video, can't seem to find it to share, can anyone else share it?

I just personally really like watching the Justin Hamner, Tyler Williams, Trey McKinney, Dustin Connell's of the world but I also feel that the Greg Hackney, John Cox, Gerald Swindell, David Fritts, Lendell Martin Jr's of the fishing world who brought the sport to where it is today are just as important to carry on the history of the sport. I just watched a Rick Clunn special this weekend and legends like him and KVD, Larry Nixon and others should be thanked for their accomplishments and me for one would love to still see them competing.

He seems honest to me. He isn’t flashy, not a pitch man, but I wouldn’t call him a whiner. He is either a cry baby or dumb. Dude fished for a couple years and realized that the day his elite invite hit the mail it wasn’t accompanied by a check from 6 title sponsors for 100k a piece and winnings don’t pay the bills. Its been common knowledge for as long as I can remember that you better have good sponsors relationships to make it.

I know what you are saying- he definitely didn’t seem to have a grasp on how business works or the “big picture” so to speak. Personalities have a lot it do with it as well and he seems a bit of an introvert.

You've always had to fish well, but now everyone is almost in desperation mode as they compete for less available sponsor dollars, from what I'm hearing, not sure if that is true.

I believe the business side has always been a requirement for longevity in Bass fishing. Great anglers come and go but the guy's that understand they have to move the needle for the industry end up being the ones that make it in the industry. In yesteryear it was TV shows and Events and today its Social Media & YouTube. Same things just different platforms.

I think everyone is trying to get a piece of a much smaller pie as far as sponsor dollars go, I think everyone is aware that trade shows and tv shows died 15 or 20 Years ago.

Speaking of veteran anglers - The Van Dam Experience fishing show is pretty good IMO. KVD is good in front of a camera.
