Was a turbofan FE in a previous life. Not many of us around so there’s a demand from the few planes left flying that require us. DC-10s are one of them

Thats pretty cool. When I started, most of the tankers on fires were prop planes, a lot of P2s and P3 orions. I can recall the first time a DC-10 came over a fire I was working on outside of Flagstaff, AZ. It followed a lead plane into the area, and it seemed so out of place, a plane that big flying not far above the tree tops, I knew it was there for a purpose, but it almost seemed like a passenger plane that was getting ready to crash. Pretty cool. Though I still have the most appreciation for the smaller 802 air tractors, those guys can really be effective if used properly.

I used to inspect and service the fire extinguishers and the fire suppression systems for the Air Tractor Plant up in Olney. Good people up there and they make an awesome product.

802s are an awesome aircraft. The Air Force’s new light attack variant is sweet!

No kidding? That's pretty cool, the "fire boss", the 802 that is on floats and scoops, is one pretty cool tool. Hahaha

Getting to see the ins and outs of that factory was fun. I beleive that I read that they got a contract to make, for lack of knowledge, a military plane that was gonna get decked out with weapons and all.

Jared, we all know the AF messed up when they started with plans to get away from the A-10s

Who doesn't want to hear that gun go off?

Marines could probably just blare A-10 gun sounds from a boom box and that would be enough to scare the bad guys back into their holes for quite awhile...

Watching the big birds fly low working the Chalk Mountain fire (Glen Rose) was quite the sight. Swoop low and pull up over the hill top.

With as many flight hours as those things have on them I'd be a little worried about yank'in and bank'in too much. Damn wings might come off.

T bird there is nothing to worry about smile We were smokejumping out of a DC3 with new turbo props until around 2012, until everyone decided they were too old. That plane was perfect for the job.
