I just talked to my little brother who is retired and lives in the San Bernardino mountains just east of LA. He said our media is not exaggerating, it’s every bit as bad as what we are hearing about. He said they no water in the fire hydrant thing was caused because the cities were anticipating fires and filling these giant cisterns in the areas they thought would have the fires, trying to get ahead of the game.

I am forever skeptical of the media, and he said that it ain’t no joke, they are in serious trouble out there.

If you care to know how the government has treated wildland firefighters over time, maybe that would shed some light on why the issues exist.

The republicans candidate who lost the Los Angeles mayoral race predicted this, made it a part of his platform, and has totally been vindicated this week.

Hell, President Trump has been talking about the fire dangers and lack of preparedness in California for years. Newsome and the other ding dongs running things in that state for sure don’t have the wherewithal to even attempt anything. Hydrants ran out of water, they apparently don’t have the necessary equipment to run ocean water (maybe you can expand on that, because I’m not sure what the issue is and why it wouldn’t be common sense for coastal towns to have the option), and they do nothing to capture rain/snowmelt, or do any maintenance.

This is a one in 1000 year situation and would have been bad no matter what, but people have been talking about the lack of action and preparation, in this area specifically, for years. Some sort of planning/attempt/anything surely wouldve made a difference. The yahoos out there refuse to do it. Or even try.

The fires are going to go out no matter what. That’s for sure. What’s left afterwards could either be bad, or it could be catastrophic, like it is now, and there was zero percent containment two days in to the first fire. That was before the others popped up.

Wildland firefighters have my utmost respect and your information on this thread has been great. But I disagree that no mayor or governor could’ve taken action prior to this week and not made any difference. People have been talking about it for years.

Not to burst your bubble but the wildfire problem has been around since before Trump was a republican. Arnold strutted around through fire camps from LA to Happy Camp, nothing changes. The problem is there are a pile of people in the most complex wildland fire environments in the world. Politics are the scapegoat. It’s more of an act of god type situation, no political party is going to cure the problem. Nobody is going to want to open their pockets up enough to pay the price. It’s a lose lose situation, that will never fix itself until people leave the hills around LA that will always burn. The Santa Ana wins will never stop blowing, and it won’t matter how much water there is.
