Won't happen in a city plagued with sue happy individuals. It also would put him as a liability and the TV station he works for wouldn't allow it.

If you care to know how the government has treated wildland firefighters over time, maybe that would shed some light on why the issues exist.

Seems like the climate hoax would be a good place to funnel all of our tax dollars to.

You know, a real problem.

Fighting fires..

There’s no money in that…

Well the problem lies in the fact that fires are going to happen, and they're going to go out, and whatever happens happens.

But being a wildland firefighter has lost the appeal it once at with younger folks, because the younger generation has wised up and stopped applying for jobs.

Wildland Firefighers are professionals and they are treated quite poorly.

When I first started, The pay was quite low and there was no housing available. It was a seasonal job, so there was no reason to buy a home or even rent because for the 6-8 months you were employed you would be gone most of the time. Nothing like getting back from being gone on a wildfire assignment for 21 days working 16 hour days and then sleepng in your car because the govt can't provide housing (something that would NEVER fly in the military, even though there are more similarites than differences between the two orgs) Its just a different world, that most don't know much about. No amount of politics will fix it.

It was disgusting, nothing on earth can justify something like that.

Heard last night that the Native Americans burned like 400,000 acres a year in controlled burns in California currently California burns 50,000 to 75,000 acres in controlled burns sure Population or Environmentalist HAS A LOT TO DO WITH IT...

Most aircraft used for wildland firefighting are contracted. Each National Forest or other government agency acquired private/contract aircraft for their local needs, and when they aren't needed locally they will be reallocated to other parts of the country, many are on 90,120, or 180 day contracts. When they go off contract a lot of the helicopters and planes have other work lined up, and are no longer available.

I looked at the tactical aircraft report for southern california, a significant amount of the aircraft are off contract and have been since 11/30, which is more in alignment with a "normal" fire season there.

if you believe in the "swiss cheese model", the holes are unfortunately lining up, i guess the next election will solve the problems.

Sad deal for sure.

"New drone shot of Pacific Palisades, CA. 75% of the city is completely burned. Wind gusts were over 75 mph at times."

I did some digging, I dont see any 2024 stats.

The USFS shared their number, thats state wide, the other "treatments" are mechanical. Depending on the area this could be thinning timber stands or it could be cutting/mulching brush. Those are fairly large numbers...

November 20, 2024 — The U.S. Forest Service successfully treated over 325,000 acres for forest health on national forests in California during the 2024 fiscal year. This includes over 72,000 acres of prescribed burning alone. The previous U.S. Forest Service record for prescribed fire was set in 2018 when 63,711 acres were treated. This marks significant progress toward the USFS target of deploying 150,000 acres of beneficial fire in California’s Strategic Plan for Expanding the Use of Beneficial Fire.

Sadly for me anyway.

I don’t believe anything that comes from an official source.

I think I’m justified…
