Annexing Canada would be like having to manage a much, much larger California.
Annexing Mexico would be an incredible burden on law enforcement resources.

Why would you add to the most communists States? California, Washington, and New York are bad enough.

Mexico our military could get rid of cartels very quicky and the drug trade with it. A little oil and energy but really not worth it to get them.

Canada is interesting... The total value of it's natural resources is 33 trillion. That's what they know about. I'd guess it's much higher given how remote and unexplored most of the country is. On a population adjusted basis it's got 8X the natural resource reserves the US does. If it became a US state it would likely get 62 electoral college votes. If they agreed to split them based on votes, roughly 35 would go left and 27 would go right. They seem to be rapidly moving right, but it would indeed be a problem.
