I feel your pain. My wife wants a new car. Hers is a 2020 with 36k miles. Can't bring myself to bite the bullet. She would look good in a new Explorer ST though.

Price of the car doesn’t dictate the price of insurance.

Price of car also does not dictate the insurance payout if the car is stolen.

My 2005 cost $1000 a year for full coverage. My friend paid over $70k for a Bronco, insurance is over $3000 a year
Your friend should shop around. My SD ford cost considerably more than 70K and my 6 month premiums are 1587$ every 6 months for it and a '19 Accord EXL 2.0. turbo. I save 324$ a year by not paying monthly. It isn't a lot of savings but comes out to a free 12 pk of Pacifica every month.

No means no.

Unless she owns a 100K boat and enjoys fishing a lot; why would she need an 80K truck for towing?

It's a great investment. It'll be worth what, $15,000 in four years?

Yes; it’ll be worth 50K as soon as she drives it off the lot.

Happy spouse, keep the house......

Exactly. You don't want her looking into your purchases. Then later, you can buy more guns and stuff.

Does she produce revenue/income?

In my grandfather’s day, his wife had to ask permission to drive the car to the store.
Just sayin’

A 70K-80K vehicle would never be a discussion at this house. For what, her 7 minute commute?

The key is to marry a woman from a more traditional culture.
No one has ever enjoyed battling a rising tide or pushing a boulder uphill.

….or marry one who is fiscally conservative….several variables here that must be selected wisely prior to buying an engagement ring.

I played that role once upon a time. Bought her a champagne colored, Honda Accord. Paid off.

She wreaked it. That was car number #3 by the way. She also couldn't drive anything with hubcaps. Didn't matter if it was screwed to the rim. She'd some how tear it off the wheel. She's never drove anything, that had more then three wheel covers.

After the wreck, I let her drive mine. A 1994 TBird with a 302. Fuel injection, automatic AOD. When I handed the keys to her, the car was perfect. When she handed the keys back.....no oil pressure. Whaat... THE...Flying buck.

She was cursed to destroy anything mechanical.
