I am so sorry to hear this Danny.
My thoughts are with you, your family and Oskar. He ruled.

Man that's a bummer. He has been a fixture here for years. I always stop and share a cheeseburger with mine when we take the last ride. It never gets easier. He passed peacefully. We did the right thing. I will miss him. I tried to share some Cheeze-it’s with him last night but he wouldn’t eat them. Those were his favorites. That let me know for sure it was time. Very peaceful transition the last time I had to put my dog down. The Vet put a latex band around her front leg, and did the injection. I said goodbye and he released the band and she was gone. It was that quick and painless. She had stomach cancer and I know she was in pain. It is hard, but you are correct, they rely on us to do the right thing.

Man, my eyes get watery just reading this. But, those critters are more loyal and dependable than a lot of humans. He's out of pain now.

It was that quick and painless. She had stomach cancer and I know she was in pain. It is hard, but you are correct, they rely on us to do the right thing. We had to put our pup down a few months ago. She had quickly developed kidney disease (likely cause by a heartworm treatment she was given after we rescued her). Dogs with kidney disease are suppose to eat a low protein diet, in the end we couldn’t get her to eat anything, it was a sad way to watch a younger 6 year old pup go. To top it off, they fd up the euth. The sedative they put in first apparently didn’t hit the vein. The vet on duty (weekend) couldn’t properly do it. Luckily our regular/primary vet had stopped in and was available to do what should’ve been a rather simple task. It’s surprising sometimes how some vets have such terrible “bedside manner” and have low aptitude to complete their job properly, yet there they are, eager to take your payment.

Very sorry to hear! We had to put our 14-year-old Bichon down about 5 years ago. Very hard! .gif)

So sorry for your loss Mudshark. It's not easy as pets become a true family member. But when it is time to let them go we have to put their quality of life and pain ahead of our feelings. It's better to be a day to soon then a day to late.

It's better to be a day to soon then a day to late. Thanks Kev. There was a bit of panic Christmas evening when we realized we waited a day to long. The wife wanted me to call the emergency clinic and have them open up and get it done. I told her to calm down because we were not going to be doing that. That went as well as you might imagine. I found myself in the position last night hoping he would just relax and be free. There is not much more helpless feeling when the prayers change from please let them get better to please just take him. I don’t want to compare the feeling like I had with my Mom, but it was similar. Nothing Could compare to that feeling but the thoughts were the same. When you are all alone with your thoughts in the wee hours of the morning, emotions get a bit raw. I was just watching the clock waiting for it to say 8:00 am when I knew the vet would open up so I could get the deed done.

RIP Oskar. Crossed the rainbow bridge. If we are lucky one day we will get to see our dogs again when we reach our final place.
Rest assured you enriched his life as he did yours. It’s hard to beat a dog’s unconditional love.

No thanks needed. As a animal lover I've been there. I've always had what I call manly man dogs. I've had 4 chows. I love the breed. But 9 years ago the wife called me and said she had fallen in love. I ask if it had 2 or 4 legs. Lol. She said 4. 5 days later we brought Maddiemay home. At the time she was 6 months old. The vet said due to her brain injury she probably wouldn't live to see 2 years old. She has what is called Hydrocephalus, wter on the brain. And she was blind in 1 eye and sometimes cant hold her bladder. . The disease makes her run in circles. Maddie is a 6.5 pound terrior. I've never liked what I call wimpy dogs. But Maddie has forever changed that. She is now 9 1/2 years old and pretty much fully blind. She has won my heart 150%. She redefines normal every day. I truly think we were meant to be her people. Every day is a bonus with her. When her time comes it's going to be one of the hardest days ever for me. I can totally sympathize with you. Our family is praying for your loss.

Sorry for your loss Danny. We too are dog people and it's very hard thing to do. My wife volunteers at a humane society kennel. She said from now on when we get a new dog, we are going to adopt the old dogs no one will take. Give them peace and love until the end.
