I need to spend more time out there. That looks like a blast! Parents sold their place at Cypress a few years ago and now own a place there, waterfront in Cobb.

FishKiller-I caught it during Spring Break and I think it was early 90's. Picture is below. You can see the 155 bridge in the background and know that dock is in Saline Bay. Caught it on a BIG live shad at night. My granddad knew the local game warden and called him to come down to see the big fish. He recommended we get it weighed as it may be a new record. We took it to the Flat Creek Marina and it was 14 1/2lbs. I didn't know what the lake record was at the time (I just knew it was my biggest fish) and the lady at Flat Creek said it was a few ounces shy. I got a call about a month later from the Tyler newspaper and they wanted to do a special article on the hybrid fishing on Palestine. They took my story and put this picture in the article. Sorry about the quality of the pic-didn't have iphones back then!

And I'll add that I let the fish go. It spent the night in the fish cage and then took a ride in a small livewell to Flat Creek where I had to run it up to the store to get weighed. I did my best to revive it and it did swim away but slowly. It certainly deserved to live and back then I thought it might produce more big fish.....didn't know until much later hybrids are sterile.

were there any birds working up there ? I have only seen birds working on day so far this fall. Lake record is 14.77 , One of my neighbors says he caught one that weighed 16 off his dock with a crawfish. He told me he ate it, I did not have the heart to tell him he ate the lake record. Mo

Sorry about the quality of the pic-didn't have iphones back then! That's an awesome story and great picture!! There are still some big one's out there. I read a report that for some reason the Hybrids can live up to 11 years on average in Palestine. That is getting old for them. The big one I caught on Tawakoni was eaten. Back then if it was legal we kept it and ate it. The only fish I keep now are crappie and just enough to have some on hand in the freezer. were there any birds working up there ? I have only seen birds working on day so far this fall. Lake record is 14.77 , One of my neighbors says he caught one that weighed 16 off his dock with a crawfish. Mo Mo, I did see some birds working the shoreline a little south of me right before the boat docks along Ealges Bluff. There were a couple of boats working it but honestly I had my hands full with what I was doing.

Here is the video I did last Tuesday. Granted it's too long and only a portion of what I caught but give you an idea. Fast forward through it as needed. I've got a lot of work to do on my video skill. LOL https://rumble.com/embed/v5yek3e/?pub=3dhs8f

Great video. I've been the last 4 days. My old school deadsticking is not as effective as it once was. Those sunshine hybrids seem to be particular. Not familiar with dimiki rig. Sure would like to see what you used. We ffs, thump, and deadstick. Some of the ones that come looking will literally run from it if moved at the wrong time.i have down scaled to 3.5" grub and it's better. It seems the days of a 1oz head and 5" fluke or sassy shads or done for deadsticking cor me. Think the palmetto were dumber, I could catch them.

It was just the soft bait I was using from Damiki....

Thanks killer.
rkd, that's one heck of a striped.
I still say those sunshine hybrids are way more harder to catch than the palmetto. Sunshines don't care for big and fast. I want more palmetto. But happy to get anything.
