Luckily I was home and the house door was unlocked. I can't even remember the last time I did that but I bet it was 15 or more years ago.
Had the hood up with it running to fill up the washer fluid and look things over. Shut the hood and whent to turn it off and the damn doors were all locked. hammer

In the past, I always had a plain metal spare hid somewhere under the previous trucks but these new keys cost way to much to do that anymore.

It's a 2019 f150 and has the key pad buttons outside on the driver door piller but the guy i bought it from never had the code.
I guess I need to go research how to make that thing work. If i'd have been in the Walmart parking lot, this would have been really fun to get a locksmith out on Christmas Eve. Probably cost a pretty penny if I could even find one that would come out. I'm just very blessed and thankful I didn't pull that bonehead maneuver somewhere on my way to Dallas on Friday. Thank you Jesus.

Oh, btw the pushbutton door unlocker on the spare key apparently won't unlock it if the truck is running. Had to physically stick the key in the lock and turn it the old school way. First time I've ever poked one in there.

edit> In my flusterdness, when I was poking the silver swithcblade button that depolys the metal part of the key that I poke into the ignition switch, I thought I was mashing the electric unlock button which is how I always unlock it. Doh!

My son can reprogram the door code pretty easily using his laptop. In fact he bought a lesser grade '19 F150 then added the punch keys and programmed it. He also put remote starts on it and my 2023 F150. He's pretty sharp and self taught.

My 99 Jeep has a key but the last 3 trucks I've had didn't have one. Phone app for backup, but it's almost impossible to lock the fob inside the truck.

Funny story a few years back, we were returning home from a trip to colorado, we pulled into a gas station to fuel up, we had our little [censored] with us, left him in the truck while fueling, I also left the keys in the truck, I guess I hit the lock button getting out of the truck, we get ready to leave and find the doors locked, I am cussing up a storm, my wife says she will get Buddy to unlock the doors, I said that is a brilliant idea, why did I not think of that lol, she calls buddy over to the door, he is a hyper little dog, in less than 20 seconds he done stepped on the unlock button and we are good to go lol.

And you can change it to whatever you want.

Yep. On my old Town Car, the master code was located under the trunk lid. I can't remember where I found it on my F150.

It took me the first week working as a mechanic to learn to never leave a running vehicle without rolling the window down.

That customer was NOT happy.

Some vehicles are designed to self-lock a few minutes after the doors are closed. My 2010 Tacoma pickup does that and I learned to carry a spare key in my wallet. I wouldn't know anything about later models. The OP might find a helpful video on Youtube.

You are very lucky to have a son that can do that. I have 2 that are pretty sharp, but that's way above both of their's tech skills.

Thanks LSS. My key is in between the ones pictured in that article. Mine looks more like the one on the right that you just push the button on it.
Except milne has a little silver metal button that I have to push like a switchblade and the metal part of the key flies out of the fob. Or I can just leave it out. Then I have to put that metal key sticking out of the fob into the switch. And mine does not have remote start. I guess it was a crossover between those 2 technologies. I would really like it if remote start worked on mine. I'll probably go to the ford house and see if they can help me with the keypad code.

Your Wife is a a wise one. I'd have never thought of that. Did Buddy get some T Bone or Ribeye for his dinner that night?

I have done it one time. It was a rental. Cold morning, I started the car to warm up then went back into the hotel lobby to meet up with the other folks on the team. We walk out to the car, doors locked. We had a meeting to get to and my fellow workers were not very happy with me. Called the rental company, they were only a few miles away and they came over with a key to unlock the car.

I"ll bet that's exactly what it was! I'll be sure to roll both front windows down next time I do this. And I'll check the youtube and I bet I find the answer. Thanks.
