I picked up 5 dozen pork tamales yesterday. Coworkers mother and sisters make them for 15 per dozen. We are having them tomorrow and I vacuum seal 1/2 dozen per package for rest of the year. The masa / meat ratio is just right. He told me that his mom made and sold 60 dozen.

We had a hunter on my place for years who had a Mexican wife. She made excellent tamales. I only saw her angry once when someone killed a hog and discarded the head. She got every hog head from then on.

La Nortenda in Pecos TX. Has the best tamales I have ever had. I hope the train derailment didn't shut them down. They are/Were a block over from the train track. They are either shut down or selling everything they can make.

These are some of the best store bought tamales that I've found.
I miss the 3 for 99 cents tamales that you used to find in the crockpot thing at convenience stores.

Just discovered these. Beef is better than the pork.

I bought tamales by the dozen at Allsup's about 10 years ago. They were really good but on the greasy side. The guys at work thought they were awesome.

If you live within driving distance of NW Houston, get your tamales (pork, chicken, spicy or not) at the Balderas Tamale Factory on the north end of Jones road. We’ve been buying them for 30+ years. Big and excellent. We don’t live there anymore, but will include that place when we go back to the city.

We’ll have some tonight, with Chili (with beans) over the top. It’s our Christmas Eve tradition.

HEB aren’t the best ever but far from the worst.

We had a bag of hot and ready last night. Nobody gagged once.

Tamales are just corndogs that haven't been fried. Corn on the outside, Mystery meat in the middle and no stick. Wrapped in corn shucks.

That's on our dinner menu for tomorrow. Those look good, Jun. I still remember being blessed by you and your mom when y'all shared some with me. Thank you again for that!
