My grandpa was a mechanic who taught my dad who taught me. I can fix anything. Can't even guess how much i saved over the years. My mom taught me the love of God and faith. I miss them both so much. How about you?

My dad was pretty absent most of my formative years. My grandfather taught me all kinds of country things from gardening on a large scale, scalding and scraping hogs, nature thangs from all kinds of animal habits (and how to hunt), which knots on a toothache tree work, how to build stuff . . . the list is endless. Mostly he taught me how to work.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

My father: Yeah, well, he taught me early on that people are ****ing *******s. He also taught me to duck, because more often than not, a damn fist or wrench would come flying at your head for no reason.

My mom: Taught me that you can overcome most things and still be kind, even to those that don't deserve it.

My paternal grandpa taught me how to garden and how to make people laugh.

To those of you that had good parents, may God bless you and them. For those of us that didn't...may we be better than that from which we came.

My dad was a welder, mechanic and machinist, he taught me all three along with how to hunt and fish.
There were no girls born into our family so Mom taught me how to cook, sew and other necessary household chores.
Both of them taught me to be a man of my word and Mom took me to church and thanks to her and the preacher at a revival, I accepted Jesus at my savior. I have tried to pass these traits along to my children.
I consider myself blessed.

My dad was a D-Day veteran and a lifelong farmer and outdoorsman. He taught me to love this country and to respect the land. I hope I am half the man he was.

How not to treat kids and to act the same in public as you do in private. I had to live with my Grandparents and a few other family members at times. My grandfather was one of the church's deacon's all the while cussing out every other driver on the road while he raced us to church so he could put his face on and be the big guy in the church's eye. I won't even say what I found out later he had done to both my mom and her sister and one of my two sisters. My worthless father, last time I saw him before he died, I was 10 and the police were arresting him. My poor mother wasn't much better, addicted to several things plus her choices in husbands wasn't good and did it 5 times before her death.

Plenty. Way more than I ever learned in college. Mostly the money I spent going to college delivered very little.

My dad was raised on a dairy farm. When he left there he was a heavy equipment operator. We always drove equipment at young ages. We had our own field cars when I was 9. We got Mini-Mac chainsaws when I was 10 and my brother was 12. We did about anything and everything. It’s the reason I can do all the work on equipment at work.

My mom was an only child. Her dad was a factory worker. My mom’s was the typical mom of the day. Dad worked. Mom took care of us while dad was working.

Taught us the about a lot. Work ethic, doing the right thing, value of a man’s word, how to manage things in life such as finances.

Lucky to have the parents we did. I took it for granted for a long time. I thought everyone’s parents did what ours did raising us with their sacrifices and being a family. Only later did I realize lots of others didn’t have good parents.

My dad taught me "yessir" and "no sir" with "damn few no sirs" tolerated. Also taught me he hated dandelions and I was the official dandelion remover from his yard. Haven't removed a dandelion since I went into the Navy in October of 1968. He was a China gunboat sailor and WWII and Korea vet. His "teachings" have served me fairly well, and I give thanks for him.

I could very easily have not turned out well.

If you take a man's paycheck, then give him an honest day's work.

Family is everything!

Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.
