I have seen something similar when I was in HS. It was at the Diablo East ramp on Amistad just after they had closed the gates and the lake was filling. It was 80' low at the time.
The San Antonio Bass Club had a tournament there. That was back around 1970 when competitive bass fishing was in its infancy. We had brothers, the Krueger bros, one who was fishing BASS and the other started fishing it the next year or two.
Anyway Raymond had just just bought a brand new top of the line bass boat. It had a 100 hp Evinrude which was big back then. He and his brother along with about 30 other people from the club were inside the marina eating breakfast.
As we were sitting there someone ran in and told Raymond his boat was about to go under. When I went out the boat was underwater, only held up by the mooring lines. We sat there and watched while my father and several others manhandled the boat up high enough to start bailing it out. Someone dove in and put the plug in.





One of my funny helping out a fisherman was actually someone who surprised me at a Federation tournament.
He helped me out.
I was fishing on Chambers in the spring with the North Division and I only had an hour or so to fish so on my way back to the ramp I stopped in a cove with some new homes in it. It was a split cove with a point between them so I started at the point and was going to try to work the openings of both coves. The fish were from the opening to half way back all day and I had a decent stringer. We draw partners but I was the odd man so I got to fish alone that day.
As I was making my way to the dock on the point I noticed that a guy was mowing on his riding mower. As I shut down and put the trolling motor down I saw him jump off the mower and run into his house. I was thinking that he was going to run down and try to chase me off and sure enough a minute later he came running out the back door headed towards me carrying something in a paper bag.
I didn't know what to think but when he got there the first thing he asked is how the fishing was. When I told him he asked me if I'd like some fresh tomato's that he had grown in his garden. He said he had too many.
Anyway, I gladly accepted the gift and as luck would turn out, I caught one 4 pounder on a dock on the other side of the cove and missed a big fish, maybe 7 pounds just afterwards. I won the tournament with I think 17 pounds.


You never know. A lady came out on her dock another time on Cedar Creek. Me and my partner were told to leave her dock or she would go get her gun. I moved on to the next dock and a little while later a couple docks away a father and son were fishing their dock. Dad told me not to worry because the sheriff had taken all her guns away two weeks earlier over the same thing!!

More of a time that I needed help. I fished an Open on the Arkansas River years ago as a Co. I fished a few seasons just for the fun of travelling with my group and having fun. Good experience. The spring rains had that river running so high that it was absolutely dangerous. Bass should have moved that event to Ft Gibson or any other fishery and didn't. A lot of boats got tore up that week. Day one I drew a Japanese pro who lives with me now and is one of my best friends, so that was nice. Going out that morning he ran over a floater. Didn't tear his lower unit up, but knocked all of his electronics off line and he learned a nifty new F word when we hit it. Thankfully we were in his old Ranger and with a 150 so we weren't going too fast. His english was very, very limited so he pulled out his flip phone and calls the service trailer. Realizing the dude at the trailer from Arkansas was not going to be able to diagnose this over the phone, I took the phone and he talked me through getting the boat back in business. Great success. We finish the day and had so much fun. Day 2 I draw a dude in a Phoenix and he is running the river like nothing bad can happen. Cool. We get to our spot and its really good. Both made a limit and I had one that was 4.5 that I believe would have taken big bass on the co angler side. Now we are going back to weigh in in a fast boat and he got it skinned back. You guessed it. Smoked a tree. Hard. Destroyed his lower unit. We both had enough fish to comfortably make a check. I was likely fishing day 3 if we get weighed in but we are dead in the water a long ways from weigh in, going upstream. Other anglers were flying by to get to their own weigh in when I look up and see Masa. I stand on the deck and start yelling and he comes over and tries to assess the situation. He did not have the words to ask if we had hit a tree, but he knew his new word for when you hit a tree so he says (F**k??). Yes Masa, exactly. But its not my boat and we had a way to get a weigh in, so no concern of mine. We quickly bag our fish and then the confusion starts. This particular tournament, BASS had a rule change that I didn't hear at the rules meeting because I was suffering through a hangover that would have killed most of you. In the event of a disabled boat, the co angler can catch a ride and weigh both anglers fish. Pro has to stay with his boat. Seems reasonable but my pro was insistent it was the other way around and I wasn't sure enough to argue so off he went and I stayed in his boat using the trolling motor go keep it between the shorlines while rapidly riding the current further away from weigh in. My pro weighs our bag in and we are both immediately disqualified. I believe it was Fred Roumbanis who called to give me that bit of good news. I am still drifting the wrong way, hoping I don't end up locking through backwards before someone comes to get me. We had an early check in so all of the guys I traveled with were still fishing and not answering their phones. Fred was about to put his boat back in the water and come get me when Justin Margraves got wind of it. His boat was in the water and he came and got me. Of course he brought my pro with him, so I had a long, slow ride back to the ramp while debating forcibly baptizing the fool until the bubbles stopped, but we made it back and I learned to pay attention during rules meetings.

Took a stranger at the ramp fishing on a Thursday before a BFL tournament. He asked and Ima sucker for people asking to fish. Ended up drawing him for the tournament. Which i could write a story about.....those 2 days.

Another time guy was standing at the ramp, asked me if I was fishing alone , and if I wanted to fish a team tournament with his club. I said yes and we won his club tournament.

Fishing Red River back on or around 2003 or so, right when the new Mercury Verados came out.

I witnessed, first hand, a brand new 21' Ranger with a brand new Merc Verado being pulled down the river to the ramp by about a 1970-1978 fish n ski w/ a 118 Johnson on it.
