Boy that seems excessive. That may cause him to not be able to purchase a license in other states if it stands. This is why I was posting cause it does seem a little too harsh over a simple mistake when he generates a ton of revenue for the state of Texas He does not. Maybe for the local o h.ivie economy but he means nothing to Texas. I see how people would think that though. As for the charge, if you fish in whatever capacity for a living, not having requirements does not have any excuse. Just laziness
When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip! #Brockstarama

I don’t know of a single tournament trail that would not ban you for breaking game and fish laws. Semi local anyway. I guess bass has a decision to make. Bass has a decision to make, really? Come on…. The story sounds like [censored]. I am a big proponent of tpwd game wardens but witch hunts like this def look bad on TPWD. I’m impressed the DA took such an already stretch and decided to prosecute it- If it were you or me if probably wouldn’t even been looked into. He forgot to renew a fishing license and did it immediately it sounds like. Then 10 months later we arrest one of the larger names In fishing for no fishing license on a fish that he was trying to donate to a tpwd organization that relies on skilled anglers to donate their fish in order to even exist. I mean they give away a 10k raffle to encourage participation because so many dislike THEIR PROGRAM. So then they wanna try to call it a tournament because of the raffle- big legal stretch that will Not hold. Common sense tells me someone like Ben doesn’t give two chits about 10,000 dollars. It’s really not that much money these days. To arrest someone for something like this over something this petty is crazy. Just shows SOME Gw’s stretch the statutes. Bottom line it will never stick, it will just cost money and time and then Ben will make even more money because of it and it’s gonna make Texas game wardens look like a bunch of idiots. He should have been ticketed for sure- he’s not above the law. Arrested10 months later really shows Texas game wardens egos and lack of maturity and common sense in a situation. I’ve seen some of them do the same with high scoring deer when civil restitution use to be based on the score of the deer and not a flat fee like it currently is now. . Seems like conjecture

I still buy my combo license the old way around August 31st. Are there license that run from purchase date in Texas? Surely it had not been expired for 6 months..... either way a felony charge is beyond ridiculous for something like this. Give him a ticket and move on.

Same here end of August. I do believe you can purchase a fishing license from the date of purchase for a year. Wife had one and I just renewed it in August so I know they run out when mine do. Year from Purchase All-Water Fishing Package (Resident Only) Fishing license, a freshwater endorsement and a saltwater endorsement with a red drum and spotted seatrout tag are all valid from the date of purchase through the end of the purchase month of the next license year. I still buy my combo license the old way around August 31st. Are there license that run from purchase date in Texas? He may be able to get off because they cited the wrong law. 66.119 was changed to 66.023 in 2011 for fishing fraud in Texas. https://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/82R/billtext/html/HB01806F.HTMThe articles I've read said he knowingly falsified his entry form. I've always kept my license current. I can't fathom not doing that when it is part of my career.

I think he’s referring to this “compact interstate law“, Josh Stracner was not able to obtain a Texas fishing license for the Sabine event, because he had received a citation in another state for not having his license. Milliken might be “f’d”.

The charge was not for a fishing license. It was for fraud. The articles I've read said they think he filled out the form and submitted it knowing that he did not have his license. 66.023 - BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 66.119, Parks and Wildlife Code, is transferred to Subchapter A, Chapter 66, Parks and Wildlife Code, redesignated as Section 66.023, Parks and Wildlife Code, and amended to read as follows: Sec. 66.023 [66.119]. FRAUD IN [FRESHWATER] FISHING TOURNAMENTS. (a) In this section, "fishing tournament" means a contest in which a prize is to be awarded to one or more participants in the contest based on the weight, length, number, or type of [freshwater] fish caught by the participants or based on any other criteria applicable to the fish caught. (b) A person commits an offense if, with intent to affect the outcome of a fishing tournament:
If BASS is looking, I'm sure they are a lot more concerned whether he knew that he had no license when he entered the contest than whether he had the license.

This sort of falls into weaponization of Gov’t to me. Selectively choosing when to escalate and prosecute for whatever reason. It seems this was all cleared up and he was punished as if it was you or I; but suddenly it’s not enough and they need to escalate it. I imagine Ben could care less either way about the drawings or free fish mounts and was just doing something that he thought helped Texas parks and wildlife by donating fish.
The guy catches more lunkers in Texas than just about anyone annually. Has a celebrity status with young anglers, donates to TP&W and could have been a great partner to them. Just don’t understand the heavy handed approach.

I think he’s 100% guilty of being a deusche. Why? He is a successful man who started with nothing and rose to the top- he isn’t a schill for every [censored] sponsor out there- those are the annoying pros. Most people have a chip on their shoulder cause he was a YouTuber and they aren’t supposed to be real fisherman, he poked a lot of holes in those narratives.
