This is a nice area, but growing too fast IMO. Have you been to Pea Ridge lately? There's been around a thousand houses plus apartment bldgs. put in in the last 2 years. Traffic jams with mile long backups at one of the 4 way stops on HWY 94 on weekday mornings. Housing prices going up too.

But some good fishing in the area, great health care available, lots of bike and walking trails.

yep
everything nice
becomes ruined now

great battlefield though

Yep, one of my favorites for some reason, and I’ve been through most of them.

there is a lot to take in
the rocks where the Confederates tried to hide
cannons facing the trees
imagine 10K men lined up in formation to cross that pasture

That is my favorite spot on all of the battlefields I’ve been to. The view is amazing. The image from that day was probably unbelievable.

If I had to leave Texas I would prefer Florida for 6 months and Montana for the other 6 months.

You could easily guess which months.

If it had to be just one state then it might be Arkansas or dare I say Colorado lost in the mountains somewhere.

If you haven't read it:

Pea Ridge by William L. Shea and Earl J. Hess is an excellent read.

I really like the Carolinas - I love the Durango area in Colorado, also.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I know where that is. It doesn't look like anyone lives there, it seems to be all vacation condos.

You need to drive around it some more. Lots of $700k-$1-2m homes.

Sundance has gotten completely commercialized the last few years. My family had a cabin there when I was growing up and Robert Redford was still running the whole thing. The place has lost all its charm the last few years.

Bend, Oregon is a neat place. I could live there. I lived in Washington for 20 years, it was great then, salmon and steelhead fishing 30 minutes from my house, and in the fall chukar, pheasant and quail over in central Washington. Seattle area got Californicated, super expensive housing, really bad traffic. It's too bad.
