If a guy can’t afford a once a year 175 oil change kit then he probably shouldn’t be chasing little green fish with 250hp.

It’s not the ability to afford…it’s over paying.

Haha. I reset my maintenance reminder on my gauges yesterday. Now I have 101.2 hours…..and a demolished prop. And a broken trolling motor (again). Hell of a day at the lake yesterday.

Eh. It was only the release cable. But…I was 15 miles from the ramp, in a dirt shallow swamp and it was 38 degrees. Nowhere to beach the boat. It’s an easy fix and n the garage. Not so much hanging over the bow of the boat trying to thread a cable through two holes with gloves on and not being able to see. Trying not to fall off the boat. All the while my partner is bitching about why we are in this swamp in the first place. 30 minutes spent fixing the cable, we go to leave and I hit a concrete bridge piling getting in plane and trash the prop. And bend the skeg a little. Damn the torpedoes…full speed ahead…well…minus about 8 mph and some bow lift. Weighed in 3 for 6.97 and went home penny less and tail between my legs. roflmao

That’s all good.

Fixed the troller and put my backup prop on the boat. Sending my prop to get repaired. Out about $200.

Better check the O-ring around the propshaft while you're at it. Water intrusion will cost you a LOT more than $200 down the road

The only thing I've seen back down for sure is electronics; namely Lowrance, they are offering deals and I think there have been a few boat brands offering rebates. I'm looking at trading up in another year or two. I'm hoping boats will at least come down to pre COVID pricing by then, but I'm not holding my breath either.
A cheaper boat can be built if they build them like that did in the 90's; those boats just had a TM, outboard, bilge pumps, and live wells pretty much and that was it. You added everything else after you got it home.

Thanks Ken. I plan on checking things out pretty well before it goes in the water again. Funny thing…right after I hit the bridge piling, the “water intrusion” warning went off on the tachometer. I didn’t know what that meant, so I thought I was sinking. Haha. I got out my phone and looked it up real quick. It said the water intrusion detection was for the fuel system. The warning indicator flashed for about 2 seconds and turned off. Another guy at the ramp said I should have the lower unit checked thoroughly. The prop shaft doesn’t look bent, but sometimes it’s hard to tell just by looking at it and turning the prop.

Also need to put 2 new trailer tiers. Bought 2 in 2021 for ~$110 each and now they are $175.

This is no joke. The maintenance kits keep going up over the last several years.

Don't know what engine you have but check out https://partsvu.com/ They seem to have some good deals occasionally... Dan

I've bent one before and if it isn't to bad a shop can usually straighten it with a dead blow hammer and a dial indicator.
I got behind a guy at the SOT a couple of years ago and I could smell gear oil; never done that before, he'd obviously did major damage to his lower unit but it was still functioning. He was about to buy one.

Yep, I know this pain. Dead blow hammer to straighten a bent prop shaft?, thought they had to put it in a machining tool to stretch it back square.
