Wife and I remodeled our master bath a year and a half ago. The most expensive part was paying a plumber to move the floor drain and tie in the new fixtures. $1400. We bought the ceramic tub from habitat for humanity $200. New double vanity and faucets from an auction house for $300. New medicine cabinets/mirrors from a different auction place for $25 each. Very nice tile from an overstock place for about $75. Miscellaneous materials close to $400 from HomeDepot. I reframed all the walls and installed the wall treatment boards before my wife tiled. I think we bought a new toilet too from an auction place…along with a new tile saw. Less than $100.

It can be done with really high end stuff for cheap, if you take your time finding/buying, and do all the demo and most of the build out yourself. I don’t think we even have $25 in 5 new light fixtures and ventilation fan.

I am certain we finished the entire master bath with 100% new for less than $3000. The hallway bath the kids use is similar, but a walk in shower and glass wall. I know it was less than $2500 start to finish. The only part we paid was to have a plumber float the cement floor and drain. That was less than $1000.

I might need to start doing plastic shower overlays for people if someone is dumb enough to pay $17k! roflmao

It boggles my mind what plumbers are asking for their work these days.

Right?

I of course thought about that. I figured well maybe they do it on volume? Nah, its a very polished sales pitch, that lots of olds would fall for. I bet its a fine product and they have some upsides in their business model. I can see why they are successful. But 17k+ for a tub to shower, not moving anything, nothing fancy, not even tile... crazy.

I did reach out to Joel Carrington and will meet with him soon!

Did not hurt to get a price from them. Hopefully that will save some of you time if you are looking for something like this.

That's crazy. I see their commercials all the time and knew they would be overpriced, but had no idea their prices would be that absurd.

if you read the fine print on their commercials it explains how expensive they are.

Just had a guy out to quote me on an acrylic shower for the guest bathroom. Thought it would be cheaper than tile. Its not as nice but you know, its a guest shower that is rarely used.

Figured convert the tub to walk in shower, put in a new plastic drop in basin, throw some panels up, no glass just a shower curtain is fine... they can do it in one day, its that easy.

I was thinking 3-5k. NOT!

$17,465.

What a rip off.

The guy was super nice and used about 8 different sales tactics which I kind of stopped by saying, "Look Adam, if you removed the "one" from the front of that number I would still think it was too much... Sometimes the gap is too big and thats fine..."

Dang, Seventeen Thousand. Not a full bath remodel, again that was JUST the wet space.

When I was remodeling my master bath I had half a dozen bids ... from around $10K to $38K. Might consider doing most that you are technically capable of.

I did everything but the tile and the granite counter tops installation on my remodel . I ended up with about $5.5K in total costs. Took it down to the studs in most of it. Installed a new soaker tub and plumbed it, revised and new plumbing, sheetrocking, tape/float and textured. The shower went from one you could bare turn around in to almost 5x5 framed and prepped for tile. Added 3 new can lights. The big drawback was the amount of time I took on it. We were out of the use of the bathroom for over a month. Looks great now, though.

I hate, hate, hate that kind of stuff (remodeling). I did it to bring a little scene control to the domestic situations and, admittedly, it needed updating.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I spent $18k on the master a few years ago. Lots of work. New tile shower with frameless glass. Totally new tile in floor, laid diagonal. Custom made cabinetry for his and hers sink. All granite counter tops. Special pull out storage between shower and tub. All new doors with frosted glass. Huge medicine cabinets required a wall build out. Electric plug in each medicine cabinet. Custom trim work. All new sinks and shower hardware. Higher end stuff from Moen. That was $1500 extra. We brought it. They installed it. Paint entire bathroom.

Super nice job.

I thought the price was kind of high but the contractor was a friend of my dad’s through Lions Club. He did a ton of volunteering and donating so I didn’t mind him getting a little extra.

Can certainly get a nice bathroom remodel for $18k. That sales guy and company is a joke!

I got the emailed proposal.

It does not say. There is no breakdown of anything. It describes the work to be done in a paragraph. Does not tie any of it back to labor or supplies.

I was off on the price as well. Its more than I told yall.

That would be a small bathroom and like not moving any fixtures or making the shower bigger and depends on how nice you want it.

My neighbor rehabbed his Master Restroom 2 years ago, and he is cheap and stingy I think the spent $36K. He got upper end fixture and was an upper end renovation, I was actually impressed.
