I have a kamado, an offset an older weber and a blackstone....I use all of them depending on what I'm cooking. Can't have too many BBQ tools....kinda like you can't have too many fishing rods or weapons...:) My patio/cooking lean too is getting crowded.

Never owned a pellet.
Egg is great. Light it, set the draft, the end.

With my other smoker and grills, I don't really need anything else.

I use a cast iron pizza pan on my Egg. Makes great burgers.

If I was starting new, I’d probably go with a pellet smoker. I love my egg though. Can you get one of the good stands on castors so that it can be rolled out of the way as opposed to getting rid of it?

In about the same situation.
Had a recteq bullseye. Worked great, did exactly what it was supposed to do for two years, then the salt air here caused it to terminate itself. Parts to fix cost more than a new one.

Never use it for any kind of big feed, those are always fish fry’s.

Never owned an egg, how does it work differently than the pellet ez bake?

The green egg uses lump charcoal. What makes it unique is the way it holds heat, and the air flow controls at intake and exhaust allow you to maintain relatively constant temperature for long periods of time.

When you pair it with a flame boss blower/controller you can hold a low temp that never waivers more that 5 or 10 degrees for 20+ hours before running out of charcoal.

The other cool thing about them is you turn off the fire practically like a light switch. You can be cooking a pizza at 600* and snuff it out and still have coal left to do your brisket the next day.

How to do you compare the reqtec to Yoder? I have the RT 700 but looking for a new one soon.

The quality of the Yoder is much better but they are way more expensive also. As far as the cooking goes I don’t find there is any difference. I’ve had my ReqTec for about 5-6 years and only trouble I’ve had is I had to replace the igniter once. For the money I think the ReqTec is hard to beat.

My buddy smoking the turkey said the flame boss app server was overloaded yesterday and the app wouldn’t load. He did a great job the old school way with regular temp probes.

Ok, let's get down to the details.

First, get this out of the way, used a offset smoker for 30 years. Was really good with it, but babysitting a cooker is not in the future plans.

So, the recteq got used a LOT, cooked steaks, burgers and stuff on it, also did a admirable job smoking a brisket or ribs. BUT....it also requires a decent amount of maintenance keeping it cleaned out and working properly.

So, actually using the egg, what's different? What does it do better, what does it do not quite as good?

I also have a PK.
My mother brought it home in about 1967 and taught me how to grill on it.
I still have it after all these years. Still have the heavy grate in it too. It's a has cooked many many meals.

Almost no cleaning or maintenance required on the BGE. You have to remove ash every 3rd or 4th cook, and scrape the griddle as needed. You do have to start your fire 20-30 minutes before you plan to cook, just like any charcoal or wood fire.

There are some accessories that you usually have to buy separately. The plate setter is required for low temp cooking, and has to be removed to grill. The double decker griddle is nice to have, but not necessary.

Pro tip, use quality pellets that don't have fillers and oils for flavor and you will have a lot less ashes. Yeah, cheap pellets are tempting but make a lot more ashes. With good pellets I can go through 30-40#'s before I have to vacuum it out. With cheap ones its more like 10-20#'s and they also leave an oily residue.
