I hope that someone can give me some advice. I like to camp in wester states because the have dispersed camping. I would like to camp this fall around a lake that allows dispersed camping. I would like to tie my kayak near my tent at night. Does anyone know of lakes with 150 mils of DFW that allow this? Thanks

What is "Dispersed" camping?

I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us.

Boon-docking, camping without power and water in areas that you don't have to pay to camp at. Out west there is a lot of BLM land you can do that on.

just trying to catch a fish

Will have to pay to camp at Meridian State Park but they have sites across the lake that don’t are for tent camping with no water/electricity

Might have to check into camping at some of the COE lakes that maybe allow that.

Not much if any real dispersed camping in TX. You might check some of the WMA hunter camps.
I camp for free out west all summer, TX not so much.

Many people on this site like to kayak, camp and fish along the Brazos below PK dam. You can make it a 3+ day trip all the way down to Rochelles. Just need to pay to shuttle your vehicle.

not sure how far from Dallas but Martin Dies State Park has some great camping options on the Angelina River. Pretty area too.

I never checked it out but I think Ray Roberts has some primitive camping for $7.

Do some research on floating the Rio Grand above Lake Amistad.

Also not free but I’m pretty sure part of Bob Sandlin State Park is primitive and have seen tents within 5-10 yards of the water w/ canoes/kayaks parked at the shoreline.

There's free camping on Lake Holbrook in Mineola.

Hey Nealglen37, not sure if you ever made it out, but I would certainly recommend Cottonwood Lake in the Lyndon B. Johnson National Forest. I have dispersed camped on the banks of that lake with no issues. Water is clearish, mud bottom, and very fishable. Good luck!!
