Lakeguide showed me that chicken hearts were his bait of choice for blues. It has worked well for me on Belton. It is one more option. Never tried that but will give it a shot at some point soon. Thanks for the tip. Sorry to turn this into a catfish thread lol. But I guess its more about fishing the Vine than any given type of fish... and the Vine is a sleeper good catfish lake.

The rest of the story. The family i gave the canoe now is in possession of a canoe & kayak. They like to catfish, he showed me a picture of a table with some good eating size fish. They fished at Dove ramp area after dark. The day I crossed paths with them they were at the ramp at the mouth of Scott's. He was very thankful and hopefully they will have some life experiences with the canoe & kayak. Here is a picture of his catch from that trip in the last month.

I am glad they are enjoying the canoe. Man looks like they know how to catch a mess of catfish too! Good for them.

Excellent find, that's a top animal planet video if caught in real time
When I first read it I was thinking the deer got caught in the rope but that was you getting caught. Anyhow thanks again for the helpful item today, hope your trip went well

Fished this morning before sunrise, and green fish cooperated a little considering the cool Wx. Covered allot of water, and it is not much to write home about. Caught two over 20", and then it all stopped. Worked my way back to meadowmere, and picked on the crappie. Big donkey crappie are sitting in about 10ft, they wouldn't entertain anything.bbi dug out the smallest swimjig that was in the boat, which was prob three quarters of an inch long and they jumped on it. Caught a flat mess of jumbo crappe (way more than a limit), should have kept the. But i didn't want to clean fish when i got home. No way to fish for them without livescope. Weird to catch such large crappie, and then catch some that were 4 inches long in the same area. Big brush isn't any good, they are holding on very small (sticks, steucture) in the channel going towards the ramp. The smaller the stick, the bigger the crappie were. Wind was high, and getting cool so i called it.b

Prosise has them figured out! First it's the old, scratched up, knarly looking deep diving crankbait that lands the big bass. Then the smallest, old swim jig you had to dig deep for in order to catch the big crappie. I always knew Grapevine fish are weird because they sure don't bite the shiny expensive, custom paint job lures I throw at them. And apparently they prefer pistol grip rods too. My split handles aren't good enough for them. On my next trip to Grapevine I am going to hang a bunch of DD22's out the window of my truck and drag them down the street to the ramp.

The crankbait was one i found, and i have well over 100 that I have found this year that need to be cleaned & re-hooked. It is weird how certain baits do better, I intentionally scratch up any chrome bait I use with a pocket knife. Haven't used a DD series is a long time, you might be rewarded with them. I have heard and truly believe that most baits were made to catch the fisher-man/woman. I have some absolutely beautiful baits, that have never landed a fish. Here is 2024's top crankbait for me on GV (for the deep category) "so far". This could change in the next two weeks, but not likely. Secondly, I have been tinkering with non rattle baits some, and the results are surprisingly good.

There is a ton of merit in your comments and picture above. How many times have we caught fish that spit up shad in the boat....and every one of them had patches of scales removed or scratches down their sides, leaving bare spots just like the picture above. That crankbait looks like a shad that got munched on, then got away. Only to get eaten again!

I would like to thank everyone for all the input, tips, and for sharing their story in the Grapevine report this year. Think it is about time to put a fork in this one, I will be working double time chasing the green fish nonstop until spring. This is the time of the year I get the lake all to myself. I really want to thank all the new people that I have encountered this year, and we made some memories. "Actuary" stopped by and picked up some anchors, and left me some double IPA. So if anyone needs a good anchor, I will certainly swap for more double IPA. I'm down to 16 anchors, about 8 are just weight and will be used for planting structure. Hope everyone has a Blessed Christmas, and a safe New Year's. Will prob go into stealth mode until mid February, when I will look at Denton Creek. If you need anything just Instant Message me, or if you have my contact info ping me. Hats off to TFF for a great location to share the love of fishing with others. Unless I run into something exciting, I will be chasing the green fish.
