Saturday 10/19/2024: Did a scouting run from 9 AM to 1 PM. Checked Drew's Humps, Sam's Hump, Long Ridge West, and Kevin's Point and no biting fish. Found fish at Key Ranch and Merimac Point catching 41 whites, 3 legal hybrids, 2 short hybrids, and 2 yellow bass. Tried several lures and the best were Mepps#4, small chartreuse BoBlade, and the larger Panther Martin spinner. Fish are still in 10 to 17 fow, so best to cast to them and work back to boat along the bottom.

October 21: Fished Saint Annes West and East and Flagpole and caught 50: 40 whites, 5 legal hybrids to 25 inches, and 5 yellow bass. The trip was primarily to test several BoBlade clones I had made from spoons and slabs. I marked a compartment in the tackle box as GOOD and another as BAD and put the lures in the appropriate compartment after testing them. I'll take the BAD ones apart and change them to look more like the GOOD ones. The best lure at present is the #4 Mepps.

I have not been on the water for several weeks for various reasons. That changed yesterday. I launched at Lone Star at 12:15 and headed to tennis court. I caught 20 sandbass and left them biting. Next I went to spillway hump and didn't see anything good there. The next and final stop was Merimac Point and caught 6 more sandbass and a few yellow bass. Since I was getting low on fuel, I decided to look at some brush piles instead of going further south. I'm glad I did. I got out my crappie rod and proceeded to put 7 crappie up to 14" in the boat. I also caught a 17" hybrid and a bream while I was targeting crappie. I headed in at 3:15. All of the fish caught was in 13 to 16 FOW. It was a good day on the water.

11/6/2024: Took church friend Mike out from 8:30 til noon and we caught 62 white bass and two 20-inch hybrids. Mepps #4 worked best. Fish were in 8 to 16 fow. Best spots were Key Ranch Drop-off, a sand bar east of Kevin's Point, and unnamed point on the east side just north of the Pinnacle Club. The carp pictured below was caught scouting spots on the 5th. Thought I had a really big one due to where it was hooked..

I finally got out this afternoon for a couple of hours. I only fished 2 spots. Spillway hump and mermiac point. Since I've not been out since Oct 24, I thought I would try sandbass and then switch to crappie. I got way more than I bargained for. I caught over 20 SB, 2 small cats and a 18" crappie on spillway hump using the original MAL lure. I caught the fish in a depth range between 14 and 20 FOW. The bigger fish were deeper and I mean there were some toads. I could have stayed there and probably caught 50+ if I wanted to. I then went to merimac point and caught a few more SB before I switched to crappie. This was when things got interesting. I quickly picked up a couple of crappie and a 2 lb cat. Then I hooked something very large on my 11' Acc crappie rod. I had it on for a few minutes before it went into the brush and hung up. Since I was using very light braid, I had to tie the line on a cleat and use the big motor to break off the line. I then got my short 5' Acc crappie rod that had fluorocarbon line and picked up another crappie. I hooked another big fish that broke off. I tied on another jig, hooked up and broke off again. I backed the drag way down, put on another jig and bam! I caught a 20" hybrid. I released it and dropped the jig and bam! Another 20" hybrid. So I'm guessing that my break offs were hybrids hitting the crappie jig. BTW I was using a 1/8 oz chart jig head, Bobby Garland original 2" shad in the lights out color and Berkley crappie nibbles. The fish were in 14 to 16 fow.

Sorry no pics yesterday. All fish were released. If my one freezer had not died, I would have kept the crappie. The new freezer is supposed to be delivered today.

Checked lake yesterday and fish are now on deeper humps in addition to shallow Humps. Key Ranch(shallow) still holding large schools on the bottom. Long Ridge West, 3 -Jug Hump, and Pitts Point now holding good schools on the bottom. Vertical fishing over them worked well yesterday. I used Mepps 4 casting or vertical for best results.
