Planning a trip the middle of March and this lake looks inviting. Any recommendations on fishing and lodging there.

Lodging - Bonham. That's pretty much it. There may be a few Bed and Breakfast type places, but Bonham is only 15 - 20 minutes from the ramp.
Fishing - Fish Shallow Trees - There are a ton of them on the "upper" - Western end of the lake and in the backs of the other creeks. In March, it should be full-on SPAWN going on. Find protected coves and look for beds.

Got couple buddies in Honey Grove with places to stay. Ten mins from 1396 boat ramp.

Would you mind letting us know who these buddies are? I have been thinking about heading up there one day. You can PM me.

Thank you!

Be safe,

Its a fun lake. A lot of 2-3 pound fish. Fished it maybe 6 or 7 times when the lake first opened. Great numbers of fish but dont go expecting to catch anything bigger than 5 pounds. Its a fun lake- kinda reminds me of a power plant lake.

I'll set some realistic expections... The new lake effect is gone and has now worn off. The majority of fisherman are getting skunked or catching less than a handful of fish. Come out here and try and say I was right later.

Yes. Fork has not been good to me in recent years either. Used to really have good fishing there at night with plastic worms

Lots of sad faces at the ramps, it’s a flat out tough bass fishery now that they’ve spread out. The one thing that hasn’t changed, it’s still a world class crappie fishery. Heading there for a couple trips this weekend, will report back how it was.

I just got from my first crappie trip on the lake. The amount of timber on that lake is insane. First time in a long time that I have caught crappie and never hooked into a white or yellow bass. I can only imagine how it will be to fish that lake during the spawn.

Fished 5 hours yesterday afternoon, we boated 12 bass best 5 pushing 20 lbs. Tons of dead water between bites and quite possibly every duck hunter in north Texas was there.

8 hours of hard fishing on BDA today… not many boats on the lake. 3 trailers at the south ramp parking lot at 8am and only 2 there at 4pm. TOUGH bite for us, not much sun and the water dropped 6 degrees overnight. Ended up scoping to salvage the day. Another dozen or so fish but man we had to work for em.

So that’s it, 13 hours over 2 days, We caught around 24 bass and a couple big catfish. Baits…. flipping, chatter, swimbait, pop r, buzzbait, scope minnow.
