Got the itch for another 10mm so I ordered this. I’ve never shot a pistol with an optic but went ahead and got a trijicon RMR to throw on it. Y’all like them any?

Yea man. It’s my 9th DW. They are the absolute best bang for the buck imo. I can’t see myself ever carrying another pistol other than my Guardian .38 Super….although I’ve got my eyes on a Staccato C, only because I don’t own a 9mm

Book a hog hunt and apply the 10mm. Break in the pistol. Take full advantage of a red dot.

You will be hooked. Went to green dot on a shadow systems elite for my duty gun and have shot a perfect score both times I qualified with it. For aging eyes it’s the only way to go. Already got a Glock 43 cut and green dot added and fixing to do a Glock 42.

Already got a Glock 43 cut and green dot added and fixing to do a Glock 42. I didn’t see any green dots! I found out that I have a slight red dot astigmatism on my Aimpoint PRO and CompM4. I’m curious if a green dot would be better.

I almost considered a Glock like Karmalla has but then I remembered that I absolutely suck with any striker-fired or double action trigger

My favorite is the Ruger Vaquero in 357. Single action and you'll appreciate feeling the trigger break. With most my personal experience being double action. And I don't blame you for not liking it. It does suck.

It is. DWs are hand-fitted, tool steel internals, no MIM. I have a Baer and Ed Brown and honestly, the Wessons are on par with them imo. Quality isn’t cheap. Tons of People pay $1500-2000 for Mimbers that are worth maybe $800…gotta pay for all them pretty ads

Red dot is the deal if your vision isn’t good at the sight or target. The gun sight is my worse focal distance. Putting a red dot on brought my grouping to less than 50% of what it was.

Dry fire training with Mantis has made the transition much quicker.

Dry fire training with Mantis has made the transition much quicker. Do this to learn speed. Always keep both eyes open. Cover the front of your red dot with masking tape and present. Then do it on the range. It becomes second nature and you will actually be quicker then irons. You will be surprised at how clear the sight picture still is and how fast you adjust. Then with tape off your damn Josef Wales.

What red dot sights do yall recommend? So far I have had good luck with the Holosuns. The one thing I would recommend though is find the one that’s a direct mount for your gun or have a slide cut specific to your model. We have had some adapter plates fail during training. 508 T

Do you recommend tritium irons with your optic or would that hamper your sight picture somehow? What rear is on your Glock? Dawson? My plate takes a Glock dovetail and I’m going to need a .355” with a Novak .250” front

No offense meant, but why, oh why, would you limit yourself to 8 rounds? No real reason for it. They can be found in various configurations. I believe, but won't swear to it, that Remington now makes the Para Ordanance pistols. They are out there. Even in the Commander configuration. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/101609231PS, I might also have a G-48, single stack with me on occasion. So, I'm not totally anti 9mm.

It does go dim over time, so you will have to replace them, but the half life on tritium is super long. No idea on the size of the dove tail

Just a huge 1911 fan and enjoy quality over quantity in my hobbies. I use high end JDM fishing gear instead of Kast Kings and I enjoy top tier firearms over stuff like Taurus & Para. To me, it’s just something you can feel when it’s in your hand. I wouldn’t pay $299 for the pistol in that link muchless $899 I’ve never needed 1 round muchless 8 and I’m perfectly ok with my odds. There’s something for everyone

The never ending debate of capacity over caliber. That 300 lb naked crack head smeared in dog poo and coming after me with a machete? If he's ten feet away, I dang sure don't want him getting to five. But I try to compromise with a double stack .45. 11 rounds should take care of any likely scenario. Just old teachings by Texas Ranger great uncle, rule of 3.

I was a cop for 38 years and I always carried a 1911 in .45ACP, until my last year. I acquired a Staccato XC (9mm) and I carried it until I retired. Just because I love that gun. I've always preferred the .45 and I've always preferred the 1911 and its variants, but I'll be the first one to tell you that where you hit an assailant is waaaaaay more important than what you hit an assailant with. And anyone with a modicum of skill and dexterity can reload a 1911 pretty quick. I shot perfect scores with both calibers. My current EDC is a S&W 9C with a Holosun 507C and a Streamlight TLR7A. Pretty sure I can survive the occasional zombie assault with it. Let what fits you, and your preferred mode of carry, dictate what you carry. Not how many rounds it carries or what caliber it comes in.

More punch that a .45 and you can get models with 15 round mags. They tend to be a bit big for concealed carry, but so is a 1911. I love 1911's BTW, more because they are just a cool pistol than practical carry. I love shooting them for fun.

Just to clarify, I won’t ever be carrying this, it’s just a toy for me. I will always carry a 1911 though but in 38 Super flavor. DW Guardian 38S in a Milt Sparks VM2. Doesn’t get any better for me

I bought a couple pistols from a ex Detective who now taught CC classes. I asked for why you should pick one over the other. He opened his shirt and showed a bullet hole in his chest just to the side of his heart, it went out under his armpit. The guy was shooting a 45, he stated he sure was glad he wasn’t shooting a 9MM and had actually hit his heart. He said most can't shoot a short barrel 45 like most carry guns. He agree with the above shoot the biggest you can actuality hit with a 45 does no good if you can’t shoot your gun. I have both and carry both but more times than not I have a 380 in my pocket with only 7 rounds. The ex detective made a very good point. The old sayings of a bigger calibers are better was mainly because we didn't have the bullets and powder we have now. He said so the difference today are not what they were even five years ago much less 50 years ago

Great uncle was a retired captain in the Texas Rangers. Salty old dude would be a understatement.
He taught all of us kids how to handle ourselves, and what he preached until it was permanently branded into our brain was the rule of 3.
3 yards 3 seconds 3 rounds
If you were prepared for the rule of 3 you were prepared. Out of the herd of cousins and brothers, the only one of us who has actually had to use the lessons was a girl cousin who removed the face from a would be carjacker in New Orleans. She was indeed prepared.

The detective would agree with this He told me something I would have never thought about. He said the average man gets attacked from 15 yards away because most are cowards. Women get attacked from less than 5 yards away so women need to be alert at all times To protect them selves especially the three seconds rule. He taught women should have has big a revolver as they can shoot, so all they have to do is pull the trigger to stop them. He said one to two the revolver has plenty of fire power if there are more 9 times out of 10 any others are already fleeing

My main experience is an Aimpoint m4 comp on a Ruger 10/22. Barracuda stock and lots of trigger work.
Zeroed at 96 yards. How to zero a red dot? Look through it using one side of binoculars. Once the shot group is inside the red blob. You're set.
Drills? Line up some beer bottles. 8-15 yards out. Either on the ground or elevated. The faster you can bust them all. The better you'll get. You should be able to recognize a cotton tail at distance. Raise the rifle and dispatch the critter within 2 seconds. It's almost not fair.
Buy the best red dot you can afford. It matters. Hunting rats around some farm junk. I tripped on some metal. Mr m4 Comp took the hit. I almost thought I snapped it off the rifle. It was that kinda hit. Took a serious nick out the side of the optic. And it never lost zero. Color me impressed.

Completely agree with this and would love to hear your thoughts on the Staccato That Staccato is a truly awesome pistol. It's incredibly smooth and accurate. I actually thought I wanted the XL until I shot the XC. I had decided to go to a holographic sight for my duty carry, and none of my 1911s were cut for optics. I had put optics on a Ruger .22 and a S&W Victory and played with them until I felt comfortable using them on a duty rig. I was about to pull the trigger on a XL when I tried the XC, and fell in love with it. I decided to go with it instead of the XL, although I'm sure I'd have been happy with either model. It was the first 9mm duty pistol I've had. I had a few 9mm off duty pistols; I had a Shield for IWB carry and I got a P365 just because I like it. Until I got the Shield the only 9mm I owned was a 10.5" AR. Prior to getting the AR I never really trusted 9s; I felt the terminal ballistics were too inconsistent. But as the ammunition and platforms evolved, the 9 became a very viable option. Accuracy and consistent -- and impressive -- terminal ballistics had finally arrived for the 9mm, and I have absolutely no qualms about depending on it. A friend of mine has a Staccato .45ACP, one of the last they turned out, and if he ever decides to sell it I want it. But the 9s work just fine. When I got the Staccato I mounted a Holosun 507C green dot and a Streamlight TLR-1HL on it. I tweaked the grip safety to require a bit less depression and it's perfect. Tucker & Byrd built me a black DC-1 holster for duty use; Charles put a rush on it for me so I could go ahead and qualify with the rig. The only fault I could find, and it's a personal issue, is the ambidextrous safety. I have seen, and have had happen to me, the safety get disengaged by contact with clothing and objects. My S&W 1911 came with ambis and I removed them; I prefer the original thumb safety, left side only, over the extended safeties. My SIG 1911 came with a set of small ambis which I actually like; I left them on that gun. On the Colt & Detonics I run stock size, left side only. I'm still trying to decide whether to cut the extension off the right side safety on the XC, or just remove it. Since I retired I rarely carry it any more. I carry concealed 100% of the time now. When I was working I carried on my strong side hip while off duty; I like to be consistent. If the need arises, I don't want to be grabbing at all of the different places I might be carrying it. Now that I'm retired, an appendix rig works best for me. I bought some Tier 1 appendix rigs for the 1911s and the XC, but the 5" slides get uncomfortable in the truck. That's why I carry the 4" S&W now; I've always liked the M&Ps. If you like 1911s you'll love Staccato. If you have small hands you may need to play with how you grip that wide frame, but I had no issues with it. The gun just plain oozes quality. I love that the compensator is integral with the barrel and not threaded on; the fit and finish are as good as it can get.

I think the staccato failed miserably in drop tests, beautiful gun though.

I don't personally care for optics on pistols for pure accuracy. It's just that I don't personally shoot them very well.
That said I'd love to have that pistol...very nice choice!

Guess I forgot to post the obligatory pics. Shoots really well…almost Jericho level! The only thing I don’t care for is the ambi safety but that will be gone soon.

I shoot both. At this point, I won’t buy another pistol that doesn’t have the option. It took me about 18 months to get the hang of it, now I think they are great.

I shoot mainly 9MM I guess if I am real scared I can get one of the 12ga guns Or high power rifles Or one of the bigger pistols like the 44 Magnum or 45 Auto’s I just believe with the Ammo we have and high powered defense loads we can shoot what ever you have and defend your self
Two rounds center mast to a 300 pound man will slow of stop him. I am not sure I need a bigger round to stop people Two good rounds in right place will bring down anyone

You will be hooked. Went to green dot on a shadow systems elite for my duty gun and have shot a perfect score both times I qualified with it. For aging eyes it’s the only way to go. Already got a Glock 43 cut and green dot added and fixing to do a Glock 42. Yes, yes . . . for older, less acute eyesight, optics get you back into the game. My Shadow Systems took a bit of breaking in but it rocks real well now.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.
