I did get out there. And my wife and son were there.

I got her on the boat! But the only evidence is going to be testimony by Prosise because she was not having any pictures. Prosise can also attest that she is easy on the eyes. We'll just have to settle for some pictures of her kid. Yea his hair is getting long. The men in the house have long hair but we don't wear lipstick.

We got on the water around 10:45 and we went straight to the point in front of Northshore trail. There were 4 boats lined up across the best ridge, and they were catching them steady but slow compared to recent days. I couldn't see much of them on the sonar, so I saw that prosise had messaged to come up to the humps:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/EiUBe5hrsUFbjDEz6

When I got there he was very gracious to my wife and kid and even lent them an umbrella. We tied up and took advantage of his spot lock. From there there were lots of two at a time caught. Several times both fish were 13+. It was one of the fastest days i have seen. We were able to get the wife a license, a good time, and had to leave because we hit 50! I always act like i ain't counting. But that's just me being an actuary. I can't mess up a number like that. Too embarrassing.

Anyhow, the wife loves fish and we will eat every last bit. We probably won't keep any until we are almost out again. Which brings us to the dinner pics. We did headless smoked white bass with bang bang seasoning, rice, broccoli, and soy vinegar onion dipping sauce. 350 for 20 mins on the preheated pit boss, be sure to score your fish with a sharp knife!

25 mins suggested if they are biguns.

After we left, prosise stayed after and got into the catfish and the great big sandbass bite continued. I have included some pictures he sent as well. He was running his two spoon setup you can see earlier in the thread. In fact he lost one that had been tied on there for a year and a half. Which if you know prosise is not surprising. I believe he went back and got it after I left too. Anyhow he said the cats were hitting both baits. Woulda loved to hung a few!

Thanks prosise your fishing evangelism may have helped win my wife over a bit today. On the creeks and off the streets.

These are the humps north of the crusher. Vertical jigging is useless, we were spot locked off the hump and casting over it. Just dragging the bait back until you feel a small "tick", then just reel two to three cranks and let the bait fall. Catfish were caught off the edges of the hump in deeper water. Thumper was on loud. Fish were coming under the boat but unless there was a moving school, the fish on the bottom wouldn't entertain the birthday presentation. Had a great day with the Sandie, green fish bite was less then poor checking areas of the beaten path. Never went below twin coves today. It was a great day with Mr. G and his family, won't be long before little man is wearing out them Sandbass.

The final part of that report is that the fish have been cleaned, but most importantly, the kitchen has been cleaned...twice!

Here's to a few more family trips and keeping the catch of my life

Great report! I will be out there Friday morning to chase those buggers. I hope to find those big ones again on the rock crusher humps. That's been my go-to spot lately.

I got the pontoon out yesterday afternoon. I keep it at SilverLake Marina so it was my first time down there since the big fire. The boys that work the dock have a ton of clean up to do. The fire was intense. Melted sails on sailboats, bent metal dock poles, melted charcoal grills, several charred big screen tvs, etc, Lots of debris still in the slips. Would be interesting to swing by with a sidecan to see the sunk boats. Back to fishing report-I was in pontoon without a decent graph so I can only swing by and make a couple of drifts through the usual spots. I was out there from 130pm-330pm and it was a ghost town. No fishing boats were out. That should have told us something! We hit the ledge/drop off area by the island and then spent the last hour working around Murrell point. Caught two small sandbass off the shallower area of Murrell. Birds were scouting and there were a handful just sitting but they were all out in the deeper midlake area. The two we did catch were mid-depth......not on bottom. Hit our slabs as we were reeling them back to the boat. Beautiful day on the water and the wakeboats are slowly diminishing.

I fished yesterday morning for a few hours. The few sandbass I caught were in front of Rockledge Park. I checked Murrell and the humps by the island and saw nothing. I also ran down to the humps by the crusher - I saw fish on the graph but nothing biting.

I checked with Grapevine on the status of the McPherson Slough Boat Ramp. The response I received was that the dock was damaged beyond repair during the flood and that they met with EZ Dock reps last week to determine sizing for the new dock. No timeline was given but it sounds like they are making progress.

Fished Tuesday evening, nothing bitng at Rockledge or crusher humps. Did not find any around the island or Murrel.
Talked to Grapevine last week about the ramp light out at Katie's Woods and noticed that it was fixed...and very bright! Also asked if any type of stripes or markers were planned to mark the ramp as it is difficult to see the sides of the ramp at night until you are on it....

Practiced my casting for the green fish this morning, and then switched gears to play with the sandbass. Saw guide boats just east of murrell point early, and then they disperced to roaming. I went to the end of murrell point, and out out off the drop found fish but they were mostly small. Fished these fish for about 30 minutes with a new contact from the forum. I was itching to go up and check the humps north of the crusher. Went up and found fish on the tops of the humps in this area. The killer was they wouldn't respond to vertical jigging at all. I had to ease off the hump, and cast over the hump and work the jig back to me on the bottom. Basically reeling two cranks, and letting it fall. When I felt a tick from them I would reel two-three cranks and keep the bait moving slowly. Caught many, many, many, many large Sandbass. I had the Bluetooth thumper going, and even when the fish were below the boat they were tough to catch. Casting out over the hump, and working successfully 20 out of 25 casts. Started focusing on the edges, and off the drop and started catching catfish. There are many humps that top out at 20 feet within 100 yards from the Google GPS link below. I stayed in this area for hours having fun. Yes I caught some small ones in the mix, but catching 14 inch fish 90% of the time was rewarding. Have no idea why the vertical jigging is not working, could prob put in a inline spinner and do well. Anyhoo, fish are in this area or near. I do have livescope, but the fish are favoring the very tops of each hump. If you know where the peak is, scratch the bottom with your bait until you find them. Caught allot of donkey Sandbass, about 6 eating size catfish, and a big flathead. Went crappie fishing and caught a decent size bass to finish the day. Take care all

I may not be able to go for awhile & wife knows that fishing is the healthiest of many activities i could be into. So at the last minute we decided it was a good night for a night trip (just me). I was debating several lakes. I like the idea of grapevine because there isn't timber and the fishing is good. It's just far. Knowing prosise might be out there made the decision easy. Always good to know someone else who is on the lake and even better at night. Plus people that run across him tend to catch fish!

The purpose of the trip was:

Try to catch a green fish
Enjoy the cool weather and peace
Really learn how to use my new eagle eye 9 unit

I still don't have my main sidescan unit so really finding new structures to fish can be done faster another day. I took my sweet time and did everything the right way. I got boat in water around midnight and finally was alternating between a crankbait and pop-r around 1 AM (Sunday)

I fished a few places where I knew there was rock in the water. Nighttime for me isn't the time to learn how to run around underwater points on the foot control, casting, and pointing livescope. So it was find bait, anchor, livescope to find structure, cast, repeat.

At one point i thought I had lucked into a school of crappie stacked vertically on a ledge. So I threw a jig and immediately had a long skinny sandbass. That was definitely a school that i am unlikely to find without livescope. And then they were gone. I had my fill of white bass catching so I kept with the same losing bass strategy and learned some things doing it and found my happy place

If you want to find sandbass overnight my suggestion is shallower than they have been in the day. This school was in 15 ft of water or less. But that is just from a couple of times when I found them well before daylight

I hadn't yet heard that prosise had any luck. [Linked Image]

For the lowrance eagle eye 9, unit cost 999 and has forward view or down view but not at the same time.

It also has downscan and 2d but I have that on 2 other units with noise on transom

If anyone is thinking about buying one of these units, I'd be happy to show it to you one day on the lake. I think it would be a good unit for a kayak.

So you went old school with those fish?
Gutted and scaled them?

They look delicious…
